**** WBB: Gamethread - Cyclones host Baylor - 2 pm Sunday ESPN ****

I chuckle with all of the second guessing of the last play. As I sat in the stands I said, the best play would be get it to Crooks and score/get fouled. Especially as POORLY as the guards shot all day. And one had to assume Baylor would cover the three, which they did. Hoping for a miracle three again wouldn't cut it and Baylor had that covered quite well. Just a crappy pass from Brown into Crooks.

I looked for this after reading your comment at halftime and couldn’t see it. She definitely wasn’t moving well but nobody said anything about a back brace or injury - I’m referencing the announcers.

If injured, wouldn’t a commentator have picked up on it and why was she playing if it was an injury causing her to be ineffective?
On the sideline you could see it. Have a doctor sitting next to me and he mentioned it as well.

Disappointed in the loss, overall not a great game for us. Some say Baylor is not very good but with the Scott girl back they are pretty good. They need to play the Chinese Girl Deng more also.

Bill got out coached in the 2nd half with the sagging defense. We still almost won.

Few Things:

1. Addi was poor today, she plays like that we will struggle to win.
2. Jadda can be the go to, without her in the 2nd half we lose by alot.
3. Our coaches need to adjust and adapt in game, Nikki Collins did and it won her the game.
4. Baylor gave teams a blueprint to take Audi out of the game, will we adapt or struggle going forward.
5. Baylor is good, with Scott and better use of Deng they might be really good.
6. Will the team let this effect the remainder of the season or will they learn, get better and continue to win?

Go Clones

That’s a fine play with 7 seconds left. That’s a horrible play with 2.9 seconds. It was never going to work. To inbound, catch, make a post entry pass and make a post move in 2.9 seconds wasn’t going to work.

Miracle 3? We shot 30% from 3. Would almost guarantee better odds to hit a 3 vs. what we tried. That play had near no chance of working with 3 Baylor players clogging the lane.

I was just going to post this. Maybe this isn't feasible nowadays with easy transfers and NIL but I wish Bill would do this and set the next coach up for success in his/her first year like Orr did for Floyd.
I'm not sure you understand what Orr did. He did not set it up for Floyd. He set it up for Hallihan and we went a different direction with Floyd. He set up and left a good team, but the reason he did not see that one through hinmself was for his assistant coach and buddy at the time specifically.

The fact that the offense of our top 10 team was thrown for such a loop by sagging off the point guard is highly concerning to me.
Agreed. And equally concerning is that they did it for most of the 2nd half with little resistance from us. Wasn’t like they threw it in there for 1 or 2 possessions.

Baylor ran an offense. Constant movement, screens, extra passes, finding their scorers. We always seem to only have 2 people even touch the ball each possession. We also got torched that short time when Bill had 4 5'8" guards on the floor. End of the day we need to make more wide open shots when they dare you to shoot them and have 3-4 players preventing an entry pass to Audi.
60% of their possession also has a screen rescreen that should have been called a moving screen. The screeners had to move becuase the ball handler reversed too fast or didn't actually brush off the screen and then the screener hipceked or extended arms, etc. IT was impressive that they used that reversing action, but they did it incorrectly and should have been penalized much more for it. It got them open illegially way too often.

Yeah, remember that. But my reference was alluding to a clean break from the current regime versus keeping Halihan and kind of keeping the same thing going. A clean break is the way to go…,., hopefully

Can we get a sports psychologist to work with AB? She disappears when real competition guards her. Missing easy lay ups, ramming ball off backboard from 3 feet, and no moves down low. Can we put in A. Williams or Tauleilei - somebody who can score and doesn’t panic. 2 points is anemic and we won’t win many games when forward mentality blocks her self. I love AB but seen this too many times!
You don't fix someone of her ability by taking her out. Just needs to work on confidence and any small changes. She is one of the most skilled players to ever wear the uniform.
One that drives me nuts is Kenzie Hare. Kids a lethal shooter and we found 2 shots for her all day.
Offense doesn't seem to want to create any shots for anybody but Audi. We have too many shooters to not create shots for other players.

Crooks played a great first half, she had half our points, and then Baylor changed up defending her in the 2nd half and she struggled getting shots and we struggled getting her the ball. Brown struggled the entire ball game. We have to have confidence to shoot the ball from behind the arc, we are turning down shots that we should be taking.

Williams missed several wide open shots in a row and it got in her head.

You could see how it disrupted the offense. They came down the floor, Jada was wide open but thought “I can’t keep shooting but Audi isn’t open.” And everything came to a standstill. She’d dribble around a little and either take a mid range shot or pass. There was no movement at all in the offense if Audi was guarded and Williams didn’t shoot.

Bill is a bad in game coach. I've never been impressed with adjustments or running set plays with him. His offense is frustrating as hell we have no other plays for any of the other women on the team outside the big 3.

Audi is amazing and she has really added a lot to her post game. Problem is outside of posting up on offense there isn't much she can do to get her the ball in spots she can be effective when she's getting doubled like that. So hard to make an adjustment

This team is much quicker than the last few years but still lacks a lot of length and athleticism that the other top end teams have. And Baylor was able to rebound with ease and basically shut down Audi the second half

For those that complain about the last play. First of all, Crooks wasn't triple teamed or double teamed. Here's a view of what Brown saw as she began the pass. A one on one situation. With an easy spin and layup Crooks, at worst, ties the game or goes to the line. At best, she scores and goes to the line. All of the guards were covered.lastplay.jpeg

I wonder how Baylor would have reacted if we moved Audi to the free throw line or had her actually set a screen. Would this have opened up lanes to the basket? Guess we will never know. We didn’t try anything.
