Why is paying a football player what the market deems he is worth overpaying?

This whole narrative about the players not being worth what the market deems they are worth seems like a way for fans to cope about us being unable to afford the talent level we’ve had.
It's about value and talent evaluation. Why pay a qb from a higher level 1-2 mil when you can get a proven winner from a lower class school for a deacon of the price? We've seen, just because someone was at a bigger school, doesn't determine their present value. No thanks to retreds.

Watching pedo fans go nuts for picking up transfers and 3* recruits from us is funny af.

Imagine spending $30m to buy our 8-4 guys.

Yea!!!! We got em!!!

I get its last minute stuff…but they should have been able to get some better guys for that money.
They really look foolish. They will soon find out.

Two things can be true here.

1) Athletes are getting paid in an unrestricted, open market for their talent.
2) It’s not sustainable for 90% of the FBS teams. Kinda sucks.

What ends up happening in the end is unknown, but ISU is unlikely to be part of the conversation.

You’re giving up hope that the rest of the world won’t wake up to the stupidity of this…or ESPN & the Rat won’t come to their senses.

If you all cut them off like I and others have…they’re gonna stop paying billions for content.

I've said this before but if those numbers are right and Brahmer gets $1.5 mil MC is going to blow through that $30 mil pretty quickly.
I think this is him paying them for their loyalty at ISU. These are HIS guys. And given the posts here about his loyalty and cocoon of trust…it’s not shocking that he’s gonna pay his guys and let the others suffer.

Played 11 games for the Panthers. Anyone have any info on him?
Saw all the UNI games. Assuming this is a depth piece. Oline was a big (if not the biggest) weakness on the team. I had heard rumblings that he was leaving, but had heard Kansas. It does pay to be thst big I guess, but if he’s starting, things aren’t likely going well up front.

If you really think the cabal orchestrating this mess are going to come to their senses, I have a bridge to sell you…

Color me underwhelmed so far. I realized we would be recruiting smaller schools on the food chain - that is our lot in life. It seems like we are dipping pretty low in the talent bucket. Disregarding true freshman, I believe we only have one offensive lineman on the team. Assuming he is any good, we need 9 serviceable guys. Do not like the early reports on this guy. I do not have any delusions about a good year next year, but, fingers crossed, I sure hope get some decent guys.

I believe Blum said $13M FB, $5M MBB, $1M WBB. That leaves $2-3M left over though so maybe not quite right.
Every athlete gets $1,000 so I would bet that if you add up the $1,000 for softball, volleyball, golf, ect thats where that other $2-3M is going.

I think it's more like $14mill football. $5mill MBB. $1mill WBB. $500k all other sports.
