So who replaces Cael?!?

I wonder if Brands and Iowa being in the same state would make this job any less attractive, and discourage some coaches from being interested. Hope not, but just wondering...

Going by the Jamie Pollard track record, what we have to do is come up with the most out there, No way in Hell he'd ever hire that guy name, and fully expect JP to hire him. Going by that, the next head wrestling coach for Iowa State will be Wartburg coach Jim Miller.

Jesus people wake up. You are all showing just how little you know about wrestling and life as a whole. We didn't let cael leave. He wanted to. I don't want him or anyone else here who has his eyes on where he wants to go as bad as appreciating why he's here. This is ISU for Gods sake. We take sh!t from NOBODY when it comes to wrestling. Penn State is a small blip on our radar and we will kick their a$$es here shortly..... cael included. REMEMBER, It isn't what we KNOW that makes us great leaders..... its what we can get others to do!!! Goodby Cael, Hello to the new Coach.

agree. everything I've read says cael left, it wasn't ISU "letting him leave." I think he was afraid he could never eclipse brands and iowa. if brands wasn't at iowa cael would still be here.

Still don't buy that line of thinking. If that was the case why is he going to a weaker school in the same conference as Brands?

Because he and PSU are gambling on the combination of facilities and name coach keeping the Pennsylvania talent in Pennsylvania.

agree. he sees that Iowa and ISU have same recruiting base and Iowa already owns it and the media coverage and the pocketbooks. He doesn't see that he is going to be able to change that. Here comes PSU in the heart of a wrestling hotbed, tons of money they are just begging to throw around and he sees that although he will be in the same conference he may believe he now has a neutral playing field...or as close to neutral as you can get allowing Iowa has tradition on its side. The logic seems sound if he didn't feel he was the guy that could topple brands from ISU. Myself, I hope brands continues to make him his ***** and that we hire somebody with the guts and talent to make brands his.

Bono will get the job, IMO. Pollard now has a history of being receptive to coaches who initiate the contact with him and campagin aggressively for the job (GMac and Rhoads); receptive to the point of eventually hiring them.
Bono is lobbying hard...

If its about the money how about a man with a single letter for a first name, J. Robinson? anyone?

i like j. robinson, but i think we need someone young.

i don't think bono or heskett are the answer we need either. i'm extremely torn on this whole deal

I still like the idea of terry brands and I don't care that he's a hawk if he takes us to a title. To me, let tom brands worry about cael and we should keep our eye on the ball...unseating Iowa. Give me a guy that can get his guys as aggressive as Iowa and maybe we have a shot. Whoever it is is walking into a great season next year if he plays his cards right. How many 1st year coaches can walk in as one of the favorites for a NT. Gable would do fine too, mostly to shock everyone right back. Heskett may be a future coach for us but not sure he's ready...maybe I am wrong. Not sure if Bono is the guy or not. Is he done wrestling himself?

This isn't football or basketball. This is wrestling where we talk about national titles, not just trying to get to the top of the big 12.

Unfortunately, I have a bad feeling Pollard will settle for Bono and if that's the case we're in for a complete domination from Iowa, Minnesota, OKie State, tOSU and eventually PSU. We won't be in the same league... As some else posted we'll go from the top 5 program to at best a top 10 hopefully.
