Williams & Blum: The transition sucks, but better times are ahead

CW and Blum - In regards to the football program, a polite request to stop with the “this sucks” and “it’s only going to get worse the next two weeks” over and over and over and over. You’ve said it. This is like the fourth or fifth Williams and Blum podcast when you’ve said it. Many of us have reached acceptance and would like to move forward. We’re interested in analysis and information. Not baiting us into grief just because you are obviously still feeling it. Thanks.

10-4. I will say the people on this message board aren’t the typical listener. So when several more names go in the portal it won’t be panic. But point taken

Look at this place, it needs to be said. Everyone knew Rocco would leave, but completely spazzed out once he did.

This seems a bit unnecessary to say.

Some people haven't. Congrats on getting over it tho!

I disagree. They are just doing their job and are relating to how we all feel about the situation. And while they say that, they also emphasize that after January 2nd we can expect good news. They also educate that this is normal for college football in 2025, especially with a coaching change.

Posters are in varying stages of grief here on CF. Some apparently would feel better if you guys were more robotic and didn't develop relationships with the coaches you guys have covered and worked with intimately for a decade. January 2 can't come soon enough.

Respectfully disagree. I feel like the majority of posts are over it and over him. Ready to move on.

Plus, repeatedly telling people that something sucks doesn’t make anyone feel better about it. It traps them in those feelings.

Finally, I’m sure there is a lot of crossover between posters here and listeners to their podcast don’t post here but not entirely. My comment isn’t just for the forums. It is in general. Case in point, having been at both of the women’s and men’s games on Sunday, the overwhelming sentiment of fans near me was acceptance. We’re ready to move forward with those who want to be here. Best of luck to those who don’t.

Onward. Forward.

Don’t forget all the people scolding posters and saying “calm down, we’re not going to lose our best players” and now scolding posters say “what the hell did you think was going to happen?”

I’d be curious if in a few months or if even a year from now they could let us know how many of the guys that are leaving would have likely been gone after this season anyway. I suspect more than we care to admit are only ending up going with Campbell because Penn State can afford to match their other offers.

I did appreciate Blum reiterating how important it is for fans to "show up." For me--someone who can't stroke a $20M check--it's nice to hear what I can do to support the progrum

That's really the rub in this. The college football landscape is so gross right now it's alot easier to just ease into indifference. Campbell was able to insulate us from some of this because of how much his players loved him. We had guys take less to be here and we kept our rosters pretty well intact. But that buffer is gone and we are going to have done to us what other small-budget schools have had done to them the last 5 years.

But, for me at least, this may kind of be my jumping off point. I'll watch, I'll root and I'll have nearly zero emotional investment. The bowl system is gone and it's impossible to be competitive at a national level. I'll save my emotional investment for basketball where it's still possible to compete on a national level.

I can live with the ‘this sucks’, but CW continuing to beat the ‘Mouser option’ is a little ridiculous.
