NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Wait.... cut Taylor Swift??? Why?!!!!!!
Well if Kelce retires we basically are cutting her too right? Honestly will be glad not to see them cut to her after every big play he has, it wasn't nearly as bad this year but when they first started dating the TV broadcasts gave her way too much screen time.

Mahomes' surgery happened last night and was successful. Apparently some damage to the LCL in addition to the ACL, but not expected to increase the recovery time.

Interesting he had the surgery already. Thought they usually waited for the swelling to go down a bit but maybe he didn't have much of it.

Mahomes flew down to Dallas to meet with the surgeon that works for the Cowboys and has done quite a few athletes knees and shoulder problems. After the meeting and the exam, I would guess it was not as bad as they originally thought, little to no swelling in the joint and wanted to get the operation done ASAP so he could start his recovery. The doctor had cleared off his schedule for the day and once the knee was examined had the surgery scheduled and completed. Mahomes was their primary concern yesterday for the doctor and the team that would perform the operation.

The third place schedule isn't going to be that great actually. They get the entire AFC east, so the Bills again and on the road again. Plus the upstart Patriots. Dolphins might be decent, Jets will be the only "easy game".

They also get the NFC west and 3 playoff teams with the Cardinals the only "easy game"

The third place teams they will get will likely be the AFC South Colts or Texans (Not Good), and the AFC North, (Probably the Bengals, unless they fall apart and let the Browns pass them who wants to paly Joe Burrow) and the NFC South (Probably the Falcons who will probably be average)

Former long term team Doctor for the Chargers.

Looks like tearing both does not increase the time he is expected to miss, so he should be able to come back sometime in September at the start of the season, maybe missing the first month at most, if rehab goes well.

Additionally, however, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mahomes also tore his LCL in his left knee—meaning two ligaments were repaired in the process. Luckily, per Rapoport, this will not necessarily extend his rehab. Mahomes is expected to be out for “nine months or so.”

They need to address Tackle and a pass rusher with their first 2 picks. End of story. And trade Chris Jones after June 1st and they save 30million next year.
If you love a Tackle with pick you have by all means take 1 but I don't want them to reach for a tackle just because you need 1. You can get by next year with Simmons and Moore if needed. Chiefs have more holes currently than they probably ever have during Reid era. I just want them to hit on their pick more than a specific position.

It really does not make a lot of sense to me to take an offensive tackle with your first pick when you invested in one last season with a first round pick and still have Moore and Taylor under contract. Looking at the CBS draft list the highest tackle listed are at #9 Fino from Utah and will be gone when the Chiefs draft most likely. Then it drops to #16, 21st and 22nd. Better use of the pick around 14 to 15 would be Love who they have ranked at #14 or the Parker kid, ranked #15 out of Clemson as a rush end. Either would fill a position of need on the team.

I'm not opposed to pass rusher either. I really just want a good player. I'd take a guy that can get you some easier yard such as Love at RB. I don't love the top TEs like Sadiq but in recent years I would draft a Tyler warren or Brock Bowers if they were available this year. I'd like someone like Brahmer if he goes with a mid to late pick. There's a lot of guys I could be talked into

The deal with picking Love is outside of him, the drop off is huge, so if he is not there you move on to another area of need, but if he is sitting there at 12 to 15 when the Chiefs draft, you have to take him to upgrade the position. Looking over the CBS list there were no TE listed good enough to be drafted that early. So it's either Love or start looking at defensive help along the line or on the back end.

You are not going to get 3 or 4 defensive lineman though through free agency, it will be at most two. Lott should return next season, to provide more help in the middle. Jones has dropped a step, but he is still by far our best defensive lineman, and KC just cannot afford to trade him or cut him and expect to get replacement value back in the draft.
Like any team that has a QB making a large percent of the cap, you have squeeze in other areas to make it work. But you have to have a very good QB to win at a high level or one on still on his rookie contract. The Bengals are going through it now, so are the 49ers.

I watched three or four NFL clips last night talking about the Mahomes injury, and what KC needs to do moving forward. All thought the Oline will be fine, it was just beat up this season with injuries. They need a running back to take the pressure off of Mahomes, for way too long the team has relied on Mahomes being the difference and now he needs more help. They need to get younger and quicker on the back end of the defense, many thought and they need to find a replacement for Kelsey. Both Rice and Worthy took a step back this season because of injuries and the suspension, Thornton looked good when he was given his opportunity, maybe he can develop into the 3rd WR. Get rid of Smith-Schuster, Brown and Remigio none are much help and hope to find a young WR in the draft. Figure out what they are going to do with McDuffy, draft areas of need and they will be find retooling.
I'm just saying we could sign 4-5 good young players at any position for what we are paying him. We are in desperate need of at least 2 decent pass rushers. I don't think we are particularly good at LB either. Bolton has taken a beating and he's atrocious in coverage.

We should have tried to address the TE situation the last 2 years with Kelce on the roster. Kelce could have been mentoring someone for his inevitable retirement.

Look at the notes on the link below, we are not going to be able to move Jones, we are stuck with him for at least a couple of years. Even if we could get rid of him, no team is going to take on that much salary and give you much in return. So you are not getting a lot of draft picks. It will be just like it was with Taylor you end up over paying for players not as good as the player you had. You keep acting like this team needs a major overhaul like the Jets.

Let's look at the pieces you have returning. A top 3 QB, a young offensive line that should be better next season. Your top two WRs return, both young. Your upgrades are at RB, TE and a 3rd WR.
On defense you return Jones, Lott and Karlaftis, that should be a fine place to start., you need at most one starter on the D line, hopefully a replacement at LB and depth on the back end.

We could certainly use a WR. I've been disappointed with Xavier Worthy. While I think Rice is a really good player I'm not sure how if he's elite. He's a #1 for sure but is he top 10 WR good? If Veach looks at Sadiq from Oregon and feels like he is an elite TE I'm warming up to taking him with the 1st round pick. Somebody will be interested in Chris Jones. They'd be crazy not be if they have the cap room. His contract prevents the Chiefs from really doing anything in terms of free agency so don't expect to get better if he's still on the roster next year. The other option will be salary conversion. Mahomes can convert his salary and free up 43 million.and Jones could free up about 10 million.

Do they have needs, sure every team does, but is WR or Oline their most pressing need is all I am saying? I would say both positions are more wants than needs. KC for the first time in a decade will not be drafting at the back of the order, but in the first half of the draft, anywhere from #10 to #16. Players will slip down as teams are trying to grab the Golden Ring and pick a QB, which KC does not need.

So to me you grab the best player available at your weakest part of the team, which is RB, TE, rush end, and maybe corner. Then you fill in with what you do not get in the first round, in the 2nd round and so on. Major needs first and then wants.
