Does the Big 12 want Notre Dame?

If Seinfeld was the "Show About Nothing"

Is this thread and ND insulted a Story About Nothing? I believe the Irish signed away their partial media rights to the ACC through 2036. So sure, the ND AD can complain to the media until he's blue in the face. But other than pi$$ing on ESPN's bowl game monopoly, not sure ND has options.

Maybe it's more a ploy by ND to add gas to fire to move from 12 to 16 playoff teams.
Which was going to happen anyway. May run right through 16 and land at 24.

I'm OK with 16, but 24 would be silly.

A big tournament works for hoops because it's a reward for the smaller program. Basically a Thu/Fri in the sun.

But in football, the regular season matters. Games in Sept & Oct need to have meaning and playoff ramifications. The CFP needs to be an invite for teams that can win it!!

How many close games were there in the 1st round of the recent FCS playoff.

8 is flawless. 12 slightly diminishes what has always made college fb the best regular season in sports. 16 puts power programs on verge of being able to “mail in” games. 24 definitely allows power programs to “mail it in”.

ND and BYU are examples this year that you often still need to be pretty close to flawless to get in cfp. Not as much as the 2 and 4 team playoff, but enough to keep massive value on all 12-13 regular season games.

Since it is Festivus Season, my other complaint, even with only a 12 team playoff, the Championship isn't til Jan 20!!! I'm checked out on college football by then. 7 weeks after the regular season ends.

With a 24 team CFP, the powers to be will have the Championship game somehow played Superbowl weekend!

Agree. But... $$$$$.

Anything past 8 in the CFP is a waste of time.

We have seen wild card NFL teams make the Super Bowl.

For the CFP, 24 is the right number. The top four conferences get 4 automatic bids, 2 for the Group of 5 and 6 at large. Then we will have a real playoff for the first time ever.

We will just agree to disagree on this. I'm in BB mode with out ISU in it. I probably wont bother to watch any of it till the championship, may catch the TT game if it works out.

Wild card teams are still NFL teams. G5 teams aren’t real teams to compete for a national championship and neither would most of the ACC teams.

24 is just an absurd number that will lead to 2 full rounds of blowouts. Do you really want a world where 7 Big ten teams and 7 SEC teams are in the playoff each year? Just zero reason for a regular season with 24 teams

The problem with this logic: if the B12 and ACC are closer to G5's than they are to Ohio State and Alabama, then getting rid of the G5s isn't the answer. The answer is making the B1G/SEC superleague with their own 8-team playoff and being done with it. Nobody else matters -- you say so yourself.

The problem is that the 6 "at large" will always be SEC and B10. The playoffs don't need to be filled up with SEC and B10 "also rans" at the expense of everyone else.

Actually I didn’t, that’s you own head game thinking I said that. G5 teams don’t matter. The top of the ACC and Big12 deserve a shot, but the 4th teams do not, neither for that matter do the 4th teams for the big ten or SEC.

Here’s the tweet that ticked off Notre Dame, which compared Miami to ND.

4 Big 12 teams in the playoff is better than 1. Let the teams leave it on the field.

Your team would have a shot most years making the playoff, right now, if they finished 4th in the B1G with a good record (USC missed this cut by being at 9 wins, and the ACC goofiness resulting in 2 G5s entering). 4 B1G teams made it last season.

My team cannot make a playoff without winning the conference and having 11-12 wins while doing it. Removing 1 G5 seat does not change that.

Sure it does, if you removed both G5 teams this year you get ND and BYU. Super easy and extremely deserving
