Assistant Coaches

One issue with Roehl is he has to complete the Lion's season before joining the team unless granted permission by the team. I don't know if that affects the public announcement or what degree he can meet members of the team and whatnot behind the scenes, but I imagine he will not be here before the portal opens.
He can be released from his contract early. They've understood guys leaving for college when promotions are offered. They have assistants for the assistant coaches who can step in to finish the season. Stanfords HC is doing that right now

The side interview clip in the main thread about the press conference has some hints about a couple of guys who might be joining the staff. One didn't include a name, but sounded like a done deal. A defensive backs coach who influenced CJR when he was a GA at Florida Atlantic.

The other hinted at addition could be home run type hire. He talked about being influenced by both Ryan Grubb and Luke Meadows. He said that one of them would be joining the program, but he hasn't even told them yet. Either would be a solid hire, but Grubb's resume in particular is off the charts for any program in college football.

Grubb is not coming to ISU to be anything other than HC…

Why would Grubb leave bama for us?

I would agree, but CJR did include his name in the discussion of coaches that had an impact on him. It was likely either a teaser or a mis-speak, but the same sentence included his name as one of two coaches who would be joining him.

I would be fine with meadows

When are these announcements expected to be formal?
He said he didn't want to announce it until it was complete so he isn't fielding a bunch of questions as he goes. Given the way he looks to operate, I would guess the staff will be in place by the end of the week pretty easily so he can get them in front of the guys. He said the defensive staff was coming in yesterday, at least the ones that are coming from WSU. Watson has a Cyclone profile page on X which would be weird if he wasn't going to be here.

It's extremely important to get as many of the staff in as possible quickly. Pretty sure finals are next week, correct? After that, everyone is going to scatter and the portal opens during break (not that that matters with the coach leaving exception). As soon as finals are over, it's going to be open season on our roster. Rogers needs to limit the amount of uncertainty at ISU by having assistants here.

The coach exception is irrelevant now that Campbell and Roger’s both are officially in 30 days before the close.

Lots of rumors so far but here is what I gather.

All but confirmed:
Co DC - Jesse Bobbit (run) & Ross Watson (secondary)
GM - Ricky Ciccone
Chief of Staff - Jon Schaefer

Defense Rumors (expected Rogers entire defensive staff follows):
Safeties - Pete Menage OR Ross Watson (did both at Toledo)
DL - Jalon Bibbs
LB - Bobbit (did both at WSU)?
CB - Mike Banks

Rumors (I'm sure a lot will be determined by which OC we go with):
OC - Zach Lujan OR Tyler Roehl (could double up and coach RB's or TE's as well)
OL - Ryan Olson (has coached TE's as well) OR Luke Meadows
QB - Kempt?
RB - Tyler Roehl (double up w/ OC & coached this at ISU)?
TE - Tyler Roehl (double up w/ OC & coaches this at the lions) OR Ryan Olson (coached this at SDSU)?
WR - Noah Pauley (was liking ISU stuff on twitter still and no other rumors)
Special Teams - Pat Cashmore

I believe you can only have 10 position coaches so some will double up.

Good summary. Looks like the fall camp depth chart with that many others though

Another coach with ties to Roehl is Seth Hestness at Army. He was also hired to work under Woodley and Kempt at Drake before Army hired him away two weeks in. He's a Wartburg grad and a Mason City Newman grad. He's worked for Eddie George, PJ Fleck, Turner Gill, and Hugh Freeze.

For ISU…..The Portal opens Tomorrow (maybe one day off) then the ISU players have 15 days to declare.

I think the coaching change clock is irrelevant due to how close it is to the EoY.
@GetAwesome i believe had it somewhere. May have been premium so hopefully my hands don’t get slapped for repeating but the extra window is if the coaching stuff happens so the players wouldn’t get the full 1/2 to 1/16 window. Ours do so that is their window.

Oh yeah, that one was behind premium wall. Nothing premium about it, so I'll re-post here:

From 247:

Previously, the portal would open in early December for FBS players over a 30-day period. Now, players can enter from Jan. 2 to 16. The NCAA also eliminated the 15-day spring window. Graduate transfers were previously able to enter the portal whenever they wished through the spring window. Now, they must adhere to the same 15-day window as everyone else.

The rules surrounding a coaching change shifted. Whereas before a coaching departure triggered an immediate 30-day window, now players only get a 15-day window if a new hire happens after Jan. 2. All the changes are designed to limit movement and make the portal cycle more predictable for teams, who previously worked against two negotiating windows in the winter and spring.

So that would make sense why Jimmy only mentioned Jan 2 as a portal date in his presser yesterday, and needing to get those in-house relationships built before the players are on holiday break. Looks like coaching changes only get a special 15-day window if the new coach is hired after the new year.
