Iowa pregame thread (men's game)

Exactly. If the line is really 6.5 I’m putting a mortgage payment on it.
There's no 6.5 line, that person was guessing. The metrics have changed since Iowa got smoked by MSU, and Vegas isn't going to make that mistake again. I'd guess it will be 10-12.

Doubt Iowa will face another opponent all season that will have two guards who can defend Stirtz like we do.

I am excited to see if Toure is on Stirtz. Can he avoid Stirtz’s attempts to draw fouls? And can we force the ball out of his hands to disrupt their offensive sets. Cause as excited as I am to see what Toure can do with Stirtz, I’m equally as excited to see what happens to the rest of that team if they have the ball in their hands. That feels like turnover city to me.

Under Fran, this was Iowas Super Bowl game every year. They always played way better than normal. We will see if that continues under their new coach, and I expect it will. I think Iowa keeps it close for most of the first half, and then get completely ran out if the gym in the second half.

They will?

WTF would Purdue take a day off?
Agree. Purdue played hard the first half, why would you not at home in a nationally televised game vs. another top-10 team? But, our defense did what it did to Syracuse: left them helpless on offense to the point they couldn't execute their offense. Our unbelievable offense was the cherry on top. When you can't score and can't stop the other team from scoring, it's a hopeless situation. As the Purdue coach said, we stole their spirit!

Because you win doesn't necessarily mean you out schemed them also doesn't mean you have to out scheme someone to win.

What we are going to throw at Iowa isn't going to surprise them and they'll have a counter. Can we adjust? Can we execute? So far this year we have but college bball can be funny.

No one expected us to beat Purdue by 20+pts and no one is going to expect Iowa to win. Iowa got their ass kicking by MSU and they responded well. I think this game might be tougher then we expect.

I'm not sure if you can call that a good response or just that they played a very bad Maryland team.

See my other post about out scheming.
I saw it.

I don't get what you are saying. Coaches at this level all have their schemes and counters (insert CSP joke here). McCollum is not bringing something TJ won't have a plan to deal with and McCollum knows what we are bringing.

What matters is do you have the horses to execute your scheme and do you have the motivation and will to execute it for harder and longer.

Hoks don't have the horses yet. They may someday but for now the only way we lose this game or even let it be in doubt is if we choose not to be focused and don't impose our will on them.

So pretty much what I said about us executing.

Well yea, like every other game we play?
Maybe my bad, I thought you were suggesting this game would be different. than other games we have won this year? Sorry for being dense but what is different for this game?

Anything can happen in basketball, but if Toure and Lipsey can make Stirtz life hell then we should be fine.

My take is anything can happen in a rivalry game. ISU should win but if and by how much depends on...

1. ISU hitting the 3pt shot, e.g. avoid the Creighton exhibition disaster
2. Avoid early foul or injury to a key player(s)
and, of course,
3. Defensive intensity

I am most concerned about #1. There will be a game when the 3s don't drop. Just hope it isn't this one.

They're going to put everything into this. McCollum knows if he can pull this off that buys him a few extra years with the fan base
100%. Iowa is probably going to prepare for this game more than any other game this season. If Iowa can beat us at home very little will matter for them in the eyes of the fans the rest of the season. If they don’t make the tournament, they will at least hang their hats on beating a top 5 Iowa State team on the road.
