Iowa pregame thread (men's game)

But it is silly to say a home game against your instate unrated rival will be tougher than a road game at the #1 team. They could lose any game, and this is a bit of a trap if the team starts to get to high on themselves but it is not tougher.
This is why we are so lucky to have Tamin Lipsey as the team's leader.

Thinking more from the mental/psychological side. Purdue got tired and looked cooked with about 10 minutes left, and Iowa won't do that. ISU's shots fell too.

They've also played in a tough environment against a much more athletic team like MSU so they've got that under their belt to learn from.

It would be really annoying if Iowa won, even shocking, but imo it's 'silly' to just expect a repeat of Purdue or what happened at Sparty.

On the other hand I think TJ loves to find ways to challenge his teams and this is a really good chance for that.

I thought we played harder than Purdue yesterday. Purdue didn’t take the day off, but they played like they were the #1 team playing at home with a long non conference winning streak. They expected to win. Then we punched them in the mouth.
We obviously played harder but there comes a point where taking for granted a home game is not a good explanation.

Painter and his staff know we're good.

You're way too scared of them.

That lead going from like 5 to 15 in the blink of an eye was tough to recover from and ISU snuffed out any hope by not letting anything be easy when Purdue had the ball.

I think it will be ISU's toughest game to date.

Iowa isn't good but McCollum is a good coach and will have some things on the dockett to neutralize ISU, and ISU will need to make shots.

He knows Iowa fans would never shut up about beating a good ISU team in Hilton and that's big for the program and 'good for the state' and all that garbage.

In fan karma, 20 point win predictions tend to not pan out and I can only see it being close somehow.

Before anyone says 'but Purdue', that was fantastic but a different game on a different day means nothing for the next one.
I think you're forgetting the intimidation factor we've already set. We got snuffed at the Players Era, put up 132 and rolled #1 at Mackey. Iowa is getting preached to all week that they will have to be playing at their best. Usually when you're forced to have everyone play their best, it's human nature to tense up.

Purdue is case in point. I think they got preached to for 5 days on how much pressure we play on defense cause they started the game tense and never freed up. We started tense too but was able to start playing free.

Look at any dominating teams before. Good teams will play them and not play their best just because they're not playing free whereas the dominating team learns to always play free.

Koch would be in the Heise role if he was on this team and Banks and Manawa would be rotation players on any TJ team. They aren't huge but they bring toughness and defesne that TJ loves.

To suggest nobody would even play at all besides Stirtz is foolish.

And if Nelson keeps playing like he did, he’ll be cutting into Heise’s minutes as well. So I don’t know how Koch would take any time from either. Batemon is better than Banks and he only saw 4 minutes yesterday. Manawa is averaging less than 20 minutes on that Iowa team. You think he’s taking time from Jefferson, Buchanan, or Pleta? Are you serious with that?

Yes they do. I expect their players found out we were much better than they expected. I personally think we are just better than Purdue and we match up well with them too. We likely would beat them 8 out of 10 times we play.

The last time the Hoks showed up in Hilton, ISU destroyed them.... a certain Hok player thanked ISU for the "memz"
