Matt the Destroyer

I can't wait til Matt gathers all the players together tonight and tells them that he couldn't stay here any longer because we couldn't afford to get better players here than they are.

“Thanks for coming guys. As you all know, I’m the best coach ever. That’s what 80% of everyone on that CycloneFanatic message board say, anyway. And they’re right about another thing: the only reason I couldn’t win championships here is because this is a poor university with alumni who would rather save for retirement than pump money into NIL schemes. I mean, who does that?

Anyway, as that message board constantly says, you suckers are the best I could get without having the money to dump on far better players than you could ever be. And PSU has that money so… adios.

(Btw, I’m taking a bunch of you with me, even though you’re pure garbage because not enough people blindly dump money into WeWill).”

Do less.

Then insert any other name into that statement.

Point being, no matter what current Iowa State players Campbell wants at Penn State, it's still the player's decision to actually go.

If you don't understand the difference between Matt Campbell actively recruiting our best players to PSU because of pressue to offset their terrible signing class, and Matt Campbell meeting the team tonight and telling them, "finish what we started at ISU, I will build my own program. I want you to believe what I have been saying the last 10 years", then I cannot help the ignorant fans that think there is not more than one way to leave a program.

This.

He won’t have Heacock carrying the load for him. Best case, he will have similar results to Franklin. Top 10 most years. No BIG10 championship. No natty. Players will be mercenaries who could care less about mentoring.

Will be interesting to see the reaction of his coach speak to an elite group of athletes. He's never dealt with those freaks before... in mass.

Oh he’s 100% going to fail there. 8-9 win seasons wears your welcome out fast. Not having Heacock would be bad for him. Hey, maybe in 3 years we’re looking again and so is he and we bring him back..

Are we going to be equally disappointed and ashamed that our new coach would stoop so low as to recruit his players to come with him?

Campbell can get absolutely ****** if he leaves and takes everyone with him. Everything he's said about character and integrity and everything else over the years is a complete fraud. I'll believe it if I see him leave and go build at Penn State on his own. If he just lifts and shifts our staff/players we'll know he's been a phony all along.
Awe poor baby grow some stones

People can dumb this all they want...be he's not wrong...
So should ISU's next coach not bring players with him?

Did players follow TJ from UNLV to ISU? Grill & Gilbert.

Feel like we have some very hypocritical or naive fans. Players come to a school to play for a coach as much as a school.

That said, I'm less concerned a large # of players will follow Campbell to PSU.

The other reality, from a roster construction standpoint, the same things would happen if Campbell announced he was leaving a couple weeks ago.

Some of you guys act like taking a coaching job is a binding lifetime contract.

Maybe tell me if that coach talked like Campbell the last ten years about his process, or "team above self", or his comments just two days ago on signing day.

Yeah, how dare a coach like Cignetti want to be immediately successful at a school like Indiana

Correct me if I'm wrong but were you one who didn't think this very thing was happening for ISU football?

I've got two Tombstone pizzas in tonight. I've decided to eat my feelings.

Is the next part going to be bad? Probably. But we'll get through that in no time and support the coach and team we have in 2026.

So based on his comments did you expected him to be coach forever? Just because a person changes jobs doesn't mean they weren't loyal to their previous employer and fellow employees.

We may never know the timing of his hire. Could be the interview stage didn't occur until the last couple days. So just because he put his name in the ring he should have not signed a recruiting class?

IMO we were fortunate to have Campbell at ISU for 10 years. Who's the last successful ISU coach to have such a tenure? John Orr.

Dan McCarney was at ISU 12 years and a solid coach for but he was 27-68 in Big12 games. He wasn't going to have a "better job" come calling.

How many players did Campbell bring from Toledo? Not being facetious, just honestly can't recall.

Nice for you to absolutely miss the point.

Everyone appreciates the last 10 years under Matt.

What I am referring to is whether Matt is going to take the $10+ million bag and be a man of integity, or if he is going to take the $10+ million bag PLUS be a POS by raiding our entire FB program. Grasp the difference.
