ISU Bowl Projection

I’d love to play USC in the Alamo, but I’d pump the brakes on anything Sports Illustrated puts out. It’s AI trash now, nothing like it used to be. They probably have Iowa playing the University of Alaska in the Sea of Tranquility Moon Bowl.

Hopefully Pollard is telling the Liberty Bowl to not take us.
and if I'm Jamie the only way I'll even consider is if we truly get an SEC matchup....not this Memphis/American thing that only Iowa State ever seems to get when we're there

I don't think there is a chance we go to Memphis. Curious what happens if BYU beats Tech and two Big 12 teams make the playoffs...do we accept a Texas Bowl invite over the Rate?
not that it couldn't happen but the Texas Bowl oftentimes has chosen Big 12 schools based out of Texas....as lame as it would be for Houston "fans", I could see them staying put and playing someone like LSU.

I don’t think you need to squint your eyes, it’s practically on an I35 billboard.

There may be more to Pollard's post that mere negotiating with the Rate Bowl. I wonder if he is trying to bring us to Phoenix in order to build support among the Arizona Cyclones. Maybe even made a few promises to them. It might help him sell a few of the pricey CyTown condos.

That would be another case of Pollard playing chess while we are all playing checkers.

Texas bowl almost always takes a Texas school and A&M is not playing in it. Iowa state isn’t really eligible for the Texas Bowl.
I think if they can't get a Texas based Big 12 school, they'll settle for LSU....which is close and has tons of fans in Houston already

This is interesting Bretty McMurphy has us playing Boise State in the Texas Bowl. Guess he thinks when it's the Texas Bowl time to pick there won't be any SEC teams left. If the SEC gets 5 in the Playoff I could see that as possible.

The struggle right now is that there aren't enough teams to fill the spots, especially if Tech and BYU both get in to the CFP. A couple of the bubble teams have to win this weekend. Remember: ASU, UA and Utah are still on a different list (Pac-12 Legacy) for 2025.

Texas Tech (10-1)
BYU (10-1)
Houston (8-3)
Cincinnati (7-4)
Iowa State (7-4)
TCU (7-4)
---
5-6 group: Baylor, Kansas, KSU, UCF

Selection order:
1. CFP
2. Alamo
3. Pop-Tarts
4. Texas
5. Liberty
6. Rate
7. Independence
8. ESPN Events pool

Alamo - usually takes the highest-ranked team available
Texas - since 2010, their Big 12 picks have been Baylor (3x), Tech (3x), Texas (2x), OSU (2x), KSU (2x), A&M, and TCU. And the TCU pick was in 2020, when the game got cancelled.

5 for the SEC is guaranteed at this point imo, barring an upset loss by Oklahoma or Bama: Texas A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama, Oklahoma are basically locks.

I think everyone is right about Rate or Texas being the destination. But just to throw out something different- MAYBE, just MAYBE- Alamo?

AZ, ASU, and UU aren't eligible (for the Big12 slot) since Pac12. That leaves TT, BYU, HOU, ISU, CIN, TCU.

Assume TT is in the CFP.
BYU was there last year and/or might make the CFP - so probably they are off the list.

Then ISU is up against Houston, Cincy, and TCU. ISU certainly has advantages over some of those - bigger crowd than Cincy, and more spendy crowd that will be there more than a day (unlike Houston & TCU).

Probably the biggest factor is they wouldn't want a rematch of a conference game. So UU-ISU would be a pretty decent game. Other possibles:
ASU vs TCU, AZ vs TCU, UU vs HOU

Not to mention USC.
It could happen!
