Hilton Magic

A king sized bed, a pile of blow, and a 4 day weekend is all I need with these three.

Yes the Magic is big comeback wins and big upsets (beating #2 in the country when ISU is unranked). that's where it came from. That's what it means to all us old people.

But now its become a tagline, a hashtag, a slogan, a brand, et al. It's MARKETING. It grows the brand that is ISU basketball (and ISU in general) and that is a VERY good thing these days.

So lighten up Francis.

Is it any different than U of I reminding the world that Kinnick Stadium is old as much as they possibly can?

I don't think any ISU fans are confused about what it is and what it is not. The 2024 BYU game is a phenomenal recent example.

But it's become synonymous with ISU basketball, and it's the kind of thing casual fans all over the country know. I've been traveling, wearing ISU gear, and been talking sports with strangers and they'll mention "Hilton Magic". We need to lean into those things, even if it feels over exposed.

Only a tiny handful of programs have successful coaching stability and a home court environment like Hilton, maybe 5, definitely not more than 10.

To me just that big advantage in the era of weird billionaires buying players as a hobby makes Hilton Magic even more valuable.

Let the record show that Hilton Coliseum first opened its doors to the public in 1971.

Before that, there wasn't any Hilton Magic at all.

There was, at best, only the Hocus Pocus of the State Gymnasium.

Volumes have been written about the good old days, including ancient texts that complained about how the good old days were better than the BCE when they were written.

I guess we should all go eat a cookie. It could spark the recall of those famous Good Old Days. But even that author was known for saying...

Remembrance of things past is not necessarily the remembrance of things as they were. - Marcel Proust (who died in 1922)

Then again, maybe not. So, let us instead heed the warnings of the Good Book.

It isn't wise to ask, "Why is everything worse than it used to be?" Ecclesiastes 7:10 (c 300-200 BCE)

Especially on Cyclone Fanatic. - Reed D. Roomb-Myfrende

Meh. Market it all over and over and over. It's like The Haunted House as a kid. No the house wasnt haunted, but all your friends said it was haunted whether you believed it or not. Next thing you know you have to walk by it in the dark at night and hear a strange sound. Is it haunted or not....doesnt matter you take off running like a B.O.O.H!

Make sure every opposing player has heard of Hilton Magic so everytime they get up 20 and something silly happens they think in the back of their mind "Crap is the Magic we've heard about happening." That'll lead to unforced turnovers and missed shots and before you know the come back has started and full momentum has swung. ......Just like the creepy noise outside our youthful haunted house.

Man, that red head...
I saw someone that looked exactly like her in Hilton a few years back. For a brief moment I thought about asking if it was her but there is no way not to come off as totally weird and creepy doing that so I guess I'll never be totally sure it was her.
