ISU Bowl Projection

I kinda hope we do get Memphis in Liberty just for the laughs. This time though I’m sure Jamie isn’t lobbying hard for it like he was 2 years ago. I’m sure he realized what a mistake that was.
That would be a turnout close to this...

Why isn’t there more heat behind a Texas Bowl idea? We will travel well, despite the Ireland and date factors, and we’ll be up against what? Houston and Cincy for that bowl? I’d have to think they would look very hard at us for that spot. Houston fan base is not big even at “home” like that and we will travel better than Cincy.

I’m out for a bowl this year no matter what. But after hearing CW ***** about Orlando, I’ll defend that destination. I went last year and was irritated when that was destination. But we had a surprisingly great time. We got tickets out of Cedar Rapids for $700 which isn’t crazy. We got 5 nights in the team hotel for an average of $250 per night which was a freaking steal. That hotel was resort like and frankly we didn’t want to leave it. (And we are planning a return this spring just for the hotel.). The game was fun and there were more fans than I expected.

Anyway, if you aren’t tied to doing the theme parks, Orlando doesn’t have to be crazy expensive.

Phoenix would be ideal for many reasons but if it happens to be Orlando, I’d recommend people consider it.
Orlando gets a bad wrap for Disney World. Last time I went, I just hopped around the city and it was better than I expected. Had a good time between breweries and some dive bars. Plus, it's not too far from the beach either. But I get the Orlando Fatigue for Iowa State. If they went again this year it would make four times since 2019. That is an overload.

Iowa State would put more asses in seats than Houston would in Houston for the Texas Bowl. I am 100% confident in that.

Only twice, since the 2011 realignment, has the Texas Bowl selected two non-Texas schools. In 2013 they chose Minnesota and Syracuse and in 2022 they pitted Kansas State against LSU. Both of these games are two of their lowest attended contests.

Oklahoma State and Kansas State are their only two non-Texas Big 12 schools that they have selected. I think the lack of ISU possibility here is that they almost always look to fill one of their slots with a Texas school and the SEC doesn't have any that are likely to be sent to this game.

Texas bowl tries to pick Texas or southern teams. They would take Houston over Iowa State based off their track record.

Yeah he's flat out wrong, doesn't get it, and was surprised how many people went last year.

I probably can't go to the bowl game this year, but Arizona would be impossible. I'm curious what kind of attendance we would have there.

The Athletic (Scott Dochterman) still has us in Houston playing Missouri:

Big 12 4 Iowa State
Logo for Missouri

SEC 3-8 Missouri

I'd rather just not be in a bowl game if we had to play Memphis in Memphis again lol
Can someone explain this thought process to me? We didnt play in our first bowl until 2000, and now we can be picky choosy?

@Nor'MidWester not sure if youre joking or not, but ive heard this same sentiment from others, and it confuses the hell out of me

It's not hard to understand. Doesn't mean you agree, but come on.
Solid rebuttal here.

Its another opportunity to watch ISU football. Obviously Memphis against memphis is nobodys first choice, but the statement of "i wish we werent in a bowl if this is our option" or "we should decline it" makes 0 sense to me
