Ever since I was a kid and heard the long version of Irene Cara's "Why Me?", I LOVED the extra intro to the song (I loved the song anyway, but this made it better). It just... there's just such an energy to it. I can't even put it into words. The vocals are fine and all, but it's the production that makes me want to listen to the opening, especially, over and over. Plus I love a good synth in the bridge.

I don't know if I'm defining "cool" accurately for the concept, this might qualify.

Still seems to me like an unlikely top 20 Billboard Hot 100 single in the early '70s considering the lyrics/storyline.

I literally went to the 2010 MLB All-State Game @ Anaheim in part due to this song advertising the game that summer. Oh, Joey Votto being a last minute addition to the NL Roster didn't hurt either!
