We are little brother

So we are losing because our sidelines are configured differently, because we aren't in our seats at the beginning of the second half, or because we suck as fans? Please OP, let us know.
I think its mostly because our QB is concussed, the WRs havent been able to make the clutch plays, and the coaching staff doesnt have it together when it comes to play calling and clock management.

Maybe Iowa State fans do this too, but the amount of Iowa fans that I've seen at our bowl games is incredibly weird. Would I go to the Maui Invitational if I happened to be in Maui when it was played? Probably. Would I go when Iowa is playing? No.

I went to a Bucky/Hok bball game last winter on some random night but I would never wear an ISU shirt to something like that.

I mean, fans closer to the field and the angle of the stands absolutely impacts sound. I assume you've recorded the DB level of each for factual comparison? Weird being this was the first non-sellout this year.
Funny you should ask. I do have a screen shot from Kinnick during the Penn State game. I dont have the screen shot from Ames but we were maxing in the low 90s during the BYU game.

Since 2018, I have been on the sidelines taking pictures for 27 P4 games between Ames, Iowa City, and Madison. What I have seen this year has convinced me that we are still little brother. Why do I say that? The fans.

Kinnick is far and away a louder and tougher environment to play than Jack Trice. "But JustBecause, its because their stadium is set up better for sound." You would not be wrong in saying that. The pictures below highlight the differences in spacing between the field and the fans at both locations. The fans in Kinnick are considerably closer. There are as many as 13 rows of fans behind the other teams bench before our first row.

But thats not what I am talking about. The 1st half of the BYU game was the first game this season, where fans were loud the whole time. And then the fans quit. We had a 4 point lead and it took 3rd down and the PA announcer to get people to stand up and make noise. Kinnick is loud even when they are on offense and they shouldnt be. With the exception of a couple of endzone sections, they stand the entire game.

I saw a number of people on twitter calling out the south endzone for only being partially full during the game and for good reason.

However the East side isnt much better:

Add in the West side of the stadium sitting on their hands most of the game and there you have it.

"But JustBecause, the team is playing poorly and they arent giving us anything to cheer about." No. Its our jobs as fans to create the environment and help them even when they are down. The first half of BYU showed what difference the crowd can make with 2 false starts in a row. In the second half, we were ahead by 4 points and couldnt be bothered to make noise outside of 3rd down. Its sad really.
Yes - it is sad an argument about "little brother" is used about crowd noise. I guess using this argument, Wisconsin isn't a little brother, but a six month old baby this year?

And your picture of the "east side" was taken at 13:43 left in the third quarter.. you know, right after halftime where fans are still finishing running to the restrooms, grabbing food and beverages, etc....

This is just a bad argument all around

Completely disagree with the ********, clickbait thread title.

That said, I do believe that the energy and environment at JTS leaves a lot to be desired so I don’t think the OP is completely off base with the general point they are making about the in-stadium atmosphere.

Compared to Hilton, JTS is a graveyard. It’s too bad we can’t channel some more of that energy for football. I was a student for some objectively worse teams than we are fortunate enough to have now, and in the handful of games I’ve been back for I’ve been decently disappointed in the crowd involvement compared to what I remember from the early 2010s.

If we’re going to pile on the OP, do it for the unhelpful comparison to UI and the thread title. In general, we need to stop comparing ourselves to TOE. They aren’t as relevant to us as some on this board make them out to be.

Would you rather be 6-2 with a loss to Iowa than 5-4 with the win?
Yes! That’s the difference between Cyclone fans and Hawkeye fans. During rivalry week we are focused on the game and want to beat our rival. After the game we only care about our conference games. We would rather lose to Iowa and compete for a title than beat Iowa and have a poor conference record. Every Cyclone fan would trade a conference loss for a loss to Iowa.

Hawkeye fans on the other hand seem obsessed with how the Cyclones are doing and they need to win the CyHawk trophy for their self esteem. They talk constantly about being the big brother, and it kills them that their little brother is better in football and basketball right now. I think most Iowa fans would take a win against ISU over a conference win. They need it to feed their egos. Cyclone fans don’t.

Thanks for letting us know
Anybody with half a brain should know a we are still little brother post isn’t going to go well here. Why not just say in your experience the Chokeye crowd is louder than the Cyclones

When Pollard reseated the students, he should have seated some of them in the first 5 rows behind the opponent bench to increase the noise behind the teams we are playing, but I doubt we could afford to give up that much donation money. The Sukup area is always going to look half empty when the weather turns poor as many watch the game inside to get out of the elements.

Its not just the volume. Its the attitude. Ames is a place you take the family for a nice afternoon out at a football game. Iowa City is where people go to get drunk and scream at football players.
