Arizona State Pregame Thread

I want Campbell to be the Coach but to be honest whenever he talks anymore his words go in one ear and right out the other for me. Just a bunch of coach speak all the time.
Rather him say, “yes the second half was bad. Coaches, players, all around effort was not there. We will work hard to get back on track.” Etc

Do you really believe "effort was not there?" There was a difference in effort from 1st to 2nd half? Execution and discipline, sure. But not effort. IMO of course.

Darius will confirm that the effort was not there.

(which is just total BS)

And while I'm not much into the "us against the world" BS to motivate players.........it is a bit refreshing to hear that from him when compared to the obligatory "looking for growth while being best version of ourselves when playing within the margins and trusting the process."

ISU stats below. To summarize. While ISU can move the ball, they are below average at scoring points and terrible at scoring in the red zone.

Defense cannot get pressure on the quarterback resulting in the opposing team having a high third down completion percentage and lots of passing yards. Also, once the opposing team gets to the red zone, they score 91% of the time.

Lastly, kickoff return coverage is poor allowing on average 22 kickoff return yards.

Offense:
  • Scoring Offense: 65
  • Red Zone Offense: 117
Defensive Rankings:
  • 3rd Down Conversion: 75
  • Passing Yards Allowed: 63
  • Team Tackles for Loss: 94
  • Team Sacks: 119
  • Red Zone Defense: 113
    • (91% of the time ISU allows the opposing team to score)
Special Teams Rankings:
  • Kickoff Return Defense: 88
    • Allowing the opposing team to return the kickoff on average 22 yards

Wondering how many people show up with a three game losing streak and Arizona State coming off getting destroyed by Houston. Also high of 48 degrees showing right now

My Arizona State Sun Devils (3-1) Football Bona Fides:

1985: @ California. The Sun Devils won 30-8. Don't remember much of the game, but it was fun watching early games at Henry's and my first taste of the Cal Bear Life. :)

1995: @ California. Once again the Sun Devils won 38-29. Jake Plummer, Keith Poole, Terry Battle, Pat Tillman, etc. Plummer-Poole-Battle was one of the best skill position combos I have ever seen in person. This was in November as the gelled to become the undefeated Pac-10 Champions the following year in 1996.

2024: Big XII Championship vs. Iowa State. It was a thrill to be at the game, but the 45-19 win by the Devils was rough. Had a blast though! So glad I went.

2025 (Jan 1): Peach Bowl vs. Texas. The Devils lost to the Longhorns 39-31 in double OT. Bummer of a game, as I was truly pulling for ASU that day.

Looking forward to seeing them in Ames on Saturday! Noon kickoff with sunshine which is fabulous in my book. 11/01/2025 will be the earliest time of the year for me to see them play with the other games played on 11/02/85, 11/11/95, 12/7/24 and 01/01/25.

Let's Go "Cyclone" State!

Probably will be a good but not great crowd.

Decent chance the Kansas crowd will probably not be good. Guessing quite a few students won't stick around an extra day for their Thanksgiving Break. Also depending on how these next 2 games go and what the weather will be many of the public might not go either.

One of the other things that hasn’t been mentioned enough is just how undisciplined this team has been since week 4. For the first three weeks they were rarely penalized and it was a huge factor in winning the Iowa/K-State games. Since that Ark State game, they’ve been penalized 6+ times per game and it’s directly led to drives stalling or points taken off the board.

Was there some ASU injury news? We've moved to a 5.5 pt favorite.

These are not the stats of a team that is about to get right and go on a run. These are the stats of a bad football team just looking to finish off the season. Problems in all facets of the game.

Need to call this Saturday, the MASH unit game.
ASU has lots of guys banged up too...

If Levitt doesn’t play and we lose to Jeff Sims then just shut this thing down
To me more about if Tyson does or does not play, that guy would catch balls with a High School QB. He is a freak.

He would go for 200 yards I think
