Iowa High School BEDS count 24-25

That is a pretty good run.
What is really amazing about IC Regina, was they were horrible a few years before they went on their run, lucky to win a game or two year after year, just a total basketball school and then they just exploded and had a decade of winning titles.

Who was their coach?

What really hurts the teams that dropped this season is that if the school they were to play this season was a home game for the other school, it's a home game for that school next year. So a lot of the schools that dropped out this year, will only have one or two games at home if they are lucky.
Van Buren ends their season this week. Weird.

Was talking with a longtime teacher and athletic volunteer about the number of schools dropping out mid year in football. Next year is year 2 for districts so should be interesting. He says there will probably be a push to change rules to allow more teams switch to 8 man after that.

It shouldn't be lost on people that Highland and Lone Tree shared a football program from 1993-2005. Fast forward to 2025...one didn't have a season and the other only played 2 games.

Are they still two different schools? Is this for all sports? Havent been follow this.
The buildings are both old and building one new one was going to be cheaper than repairing the two, allegedly. Several of the teams are already combined and several more should be just because of low participation.

VB lost games to Highland in week 6 and New London week 8. They did beat Cardinal to win a game this season other than the two forfeits they will get, Cardinal will finish the year without a win on the field.

There are quite a few 8 man schools that dropped this year too, by what I have seen.

Im curious what the numbers show, compared to years ago. Are less kids going out for sports across all sports? Are certain sports seeing more reduced participation than others? Are similar numbers still going out but the number of sports they are going out for is less? ie, years ago many more kids went out for 2+ sports and now concentrate on just 1. Is it because there are now more options that kids have to choose? (now kids have Soccer, Girls Wresting, cross country etc, that many didnt offer years ago) Is it just because of school size? (Which doesnt seem to be entirely the case since schools that easily had the numbers for teams now dont with same number of kids in the school etc.)

Numbers are down across all sports in both boys and girls sports. There were a few girls BB teams that cancelled their season last year because of lack of players. It's been going on for awhile and will continue until some of the smaller schools either merger or agree to share sports.

Charles city and Clarion were two teams that cancelled their HS girls BB seasons last year. Two decent sized schools.

In our school, you have to have a third of the boys in each class go out to make a viable team. We average less than a quarter now. Kids don’t care for the time commitments.
