Game Thoughts Cincin Loss

Konrardy was 21/28 on FG and like 40/42 XP last year.

He was good, not automatic points though.

I'd say the OL is a bigger issue not being able to get push on a 4th and 1/2 yard situation.
Really hard to get a push when you run up the middle for the 3rd play in a row and the defense knows it’s coming. I don’t care how good the OL is, 5 aren’t going to push 8

For guys who follow the roster closer than I.
Just reading recruiting profile, Will Hawthorne appears to be pretty darn athletic.

Will he see the field much later this year? He strikes me as a linebacker who can get side to side

An obvious QB dive is going to be like that anyway.

ISU just kind of seemed off on that play in general.

Gee, I dunno. The Giants, Patriots, Steelers come immediately to mind. Belichick loves him some 3-4.
Does ISU run a 3-4? Looks more like a 3-3. IMO there needs to be somebody in that back 8 blitzing or set free to fly up and stop the run. Doesn't need to be the same player every play. But, I'm not a D-1 defensive coordinator. They do what they do for a reason, and know way more than I do. I'm sure they will make some adjustments.

This is funny, sloppy or both!

Bonagura (whoever he is) doesn't even project ISU in a Bowl Game this week. However, he does have 10 other Big XII teams slated.
Talk about a tough fall! / sarcasm

I'm pretty sure one of them had Iowa State not in a bowl game last week too. I spent a lot of time looking and couldn't find it.

Lazy ****.

Other after game thought:
Our WRs are stout. Sowell & Townsend are studs & Eskilden & Avery are real threats. Think Cincy schemed out our TEs for the most part, but this opened our WRs, who took advantage.

Strategy-wise, maybe we didn't take advantage enough, but if we need to score more the rest of the season I see no reason why we can't accomplish just that.

The question was "do any championship teams run a 3-man front?"

Cicny has good LB and that usually is what you need to counter TEs.

We need better speed from the linebackers. Especially if we are trying to cheat a little to help corners.
This position has been a serious issue since Rose and that crew graduated. We desperately need a Harvey/Spears/Rose/Hummel. I'll eat some crow and say Bacon has been a big disappointment. He looked really slow yesterday in the 1st half. Not sure if his injury affected his explosion, but he looked tentative, where his game is usually predicated on aggression and speed.

Zero that I am aware of. I'm happy to be corrected on this..

I do agree with the earlier poster that I would love to see what Will Hawthorne LB and Jack Limbaugh, DE, look like the last 4 games of the year. If they can help the D and not burn a redshirt let's see them. Team needs a lot more speed on defense.

it’s been obvious for several seasons that we to go to 4 down. At this point 3 guys just standing there while the LB’s are out To lunch ain’t the answer anymore.

Re: linebackers. Hi Mike Rose, Willie and Marcel. Miss you!
Could be off but I can't recall a lb interception for a pretty long spell
Our LBs are lacking in talent. Haven't had a good one since Rose. That's what happens when you recruit a bunch of kids with no offers. Every once in a while one will develop into a great player, but mostly they are just average at best.

The biggest gaps still seem to be LB and DL play. Both got better in the second half, but it was too little too late when you dug a 31 point hole before then. I'd expect more portal hunting here in the offseason (again). It's no secret that going 3-3 means you're expecting those guys to be great players who are carrying the load.

I was shocked with how much Cincy kept trying to pass in the second half for no obvious reason. They made the game way more interesting than it needed to be.
One grinding long drive in Q1 bails out our D. Our D has been great, but they needed help Saturday.
