ISU unranked in AP poll

I think of it as the "Big 12 Tax": subtract one loss from any Big 10 or SEC team when trying to figure out where most AP Poll voters will slot them in around any Big 12 teams.

I can actually handle it when they do this with SEC and even situationally the Big Ten. The SEC really is that much tougher and we don't have a team with the firepower of Oregon or Ohio State.

What drives me nuts is when we pay that same tax vs the ACC with all objective data proving the Big 12 is easily the better football conference.

Ok, so are we back to only counting it as a ranked win if the opponent finishes ranked? I tried doing that and was told no, it's if they're ranked when you play, like ISU v. KSU this year. Because if it's if they're ranked when you play, they have a lot more than that.

PSU beat #2 tOSU in 2016, who finished #6.

EDIT*** - PSU also beat Wisconsin in 2016 who was ranked #6 at the time they played and finished #9.

EDITEDIT*** - PSU beat Washington in 2017 who was ranked #11 when they played and finished #16.

EDITEDITEDIT*** - Ooooops, saw the dude was referring to top-10 wins, disregard EDITEDIT***
You need to stop drinking that beer the Swarm is selling.

My man you’re fighting harder for Franklin than any PSU fan is - but yes I agree the tweet should have read “since 2017”

It starts out "Since 2016..." I.e. not inclusive.

If they intended inclusive, they would've said "From 2016..." or something.

Yes, it might be a case of mild cherry-picking but it still seems to be accurate. And it does make some sense as 2017 would have been the first year where it could be argued the team was "all his recruits".
Yeah that makes sense. To me it still sounds like it includes 2016 though. Either way, the post is still wrong.

Well he wants Penn State to be ranked top 10 when they come to Kinnick, and they will be because they’ll be 5-1 with wins against a Nevada, FIU, Villanova, UCLA and Northwestern lol.

That'd be cool, make it a night time kick and we may have a shot.
I think they do. They’re better defensively than Indiana but not offensively, at least not their passing game. Iowa will have a very hard time running the football though. Going to need something special to happen to win that one.

I think it will be a low scoring game either way but an incredibly low scoring game if Iowa runs out one of their backup QBs. Hank looked like he couldn't pass or run against Indiana.

Nah, they're going to roll through us. They have the best RBs in the country IMO, guys are beasts.

ISU was the only team to win Saturday that did not move up, schools like TT and Texas had a bye and moved up one spot, but ISU blows out an undefeated Arizona team and we get nothing.

If we keep winning we'll eventually move up, but a lot of these weeks a Big 12 team is going to have to win big to not get dropped. Same for Texas Tech, they can't just get by.

Georgia Tech won close and dropped, we'd have dropped for sure if we won close.

I think Penn State is typically a 12-20 type of program that almost always gets ranked 5-12.

They get a ton credit for "close losses" and "good losses" that are just complete negatives for any team that doesn't have a media jerkoff brand...and they don't ever just go out and crush good teams like the Ohio States and Alabamas of the world to back up why they have this brand that is fawned over.
They are riding Ohio State’s B1G domination coattails. The B1G has some big names, but OSU has been the bell cow with Michigan releveant again. Everyone else is a drop off, aside from Oregon. Penn State is the “best of the rest”, but really not on par with the 2nd tier of the SEC.

With the QB situation who knows but if they played this week I'm not convinced PSU is much better than Indiana. Indiana looks much better on offense but Iowa kept them in check mostly.

FWIW computer composite without the branding influence has Indiana #2 and PSU #23. (ISU #18, Iowa #40)

How about beating the piss out of an undefeated team that Vegas had as less than a TD underdogs?

Absolutely agree the problem was never with the BCS computer rankings, they were the best you were ever going to get. The problem was there were only 2 teams and often there were at least a handful of teams that were pretty even at the top. An expanded playoff of 4 or more teams with the BCS would be the best of both worlds. The current committee is a joke.
I agree. The purpose of the four team playoff was to absolutely make sure the best team got in a playoff. It did it’s purpose but the system needed to make more money apparently.

So when they do beat teams ranked in the top-10 we can just disregard if we don't agree with the ranking?

And yeah as I pointed out they had two top-10 wins in 2016 alone.
It says since 2016.....so maybe they are saying after 2016 not including.
