*** Arizona Pregame Thread ***

I know Smith came in to relieve Kyle @Arkansas State, but was reminded watching the presser yesterday that Smith has 9 kickoffs on the year averaging almost 60 yards. 0 touchbacks, but I felt better knowing he’s done it some at least after Gilbert went down. Also 4-4 on XPs

The confusion that the Pac 12 fans have:

There's nothing we'd rather do than go watch our teams play. That's not a bug, it's a feature. Especially in today's landscape. Like what are we missing on a Saturday night in Tuscon? lol

Yeah, I've never understood that. Or their fascination with Vegas. That place is a sh$t hole. All I need is access to friends, family, good food, good beer and the ability to go see the Cyclones FB and MBB. I guess when I was college age, the clubs appealed to me, but now give me a garage or shed and some friends and beer and sports to watch. Oh, and actual seasons. Yeah, I spend 2 months out of the year in a combine, but I also can afford to travel pretty much wherever I want to in the off months. I would not trade places with those guys.

Mostly normal message board stuff…The only thing I think is funny is the guy saying Ames is far from anything exciting. Been to Tucson one time and will not be going back. Thought it was going to be Phoenix-lite and it was a dump
Been there multiple times. Its ok but it sure isnt PHX. Some cool places to eat. Minimal night lighting to support the dark skies and telescope, so thats cool if you like astronomy.

But cue Sam Kinison:

My favorite is that we’ve been lucky to win all of our games lol
That is partly because people only look at the scores and not the actual game. The games were not really as close as the score shows, dont get me wrong I would like to beat teams by more etc, but kneeling out a game on the 1 doesnt show on the final score that the majority of people look at.

All I know is that Rocco is in 19th place in B12 QB rushing.
NCAA counts sacks and the subsequent loss in yards as rushing yards.

Iowa State is 9th in the Big 12 in # of sacks allowed. (6) for -41 yards

Arizona
(7) for -71 yards.

So QB rushing stats can get skewed

But the data suggests Rocco doesn’t lose as many yards as Fifi = better escapability. IMO

I find it strange that so many people have an infatuation with cities, and think that if you are not in a city with 1 million plus people that there are no amenities and nothing to do. When I plan vacations Cities are almost never on the top of the list. In most cases if you have been to one city every other city has 90% of the same things, outside a few specialized attractions.

I spend a lot of time planning future family vacation destinations, not sure why, I just like exploring things to do etc. And I try to fill our vacations with as many experiences as possible. And in almost all cases the cities on the list are just there because they are in the way so to speak, or a place to stop and rest.

I have 2 vacations planned/booked for next spring/summer in the Southwest. One taking my oldest to Arizona/New Mexico, and the other a full family vacation to Colorado/Utah. And there is not a single city on the itinerary, except to possibly pass through. We have no plan to go to Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, or any other that qualify as a large town really let alone a city.

If I plan a city vacation like New York, its because I want to take my family to see the Empire States building or the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and sites like that. If I go to San Fran I want to see Alcatraz and the Golden Gate, because they are very location specific. But I would rather spend my time on vacation in Moab, Zion or the Redwoods, than Phoenix, San Fran, or LA any day.

Take out the South Dakota game and ISU is averaging 21 points per game and has not scored over 24. Biggest thing I want to see is ISU put up 30+ on a power 4 team.
Our games have had a limited number of possessions because we've had a lot of long drives that eat the clock and we let our opponent do the same. How many times has our opponent answered one of our long TD drives with their own long TD drive?

Believe it or not Iowa only got 3 possessions in the 2nd half of our game in Ames with ISU up 13-10. The Hawkeyes had a long drive for a FG to tie it. Then they had a pretty long drive that ended in a punt. Then they had their final 4 and out to end the game. That was it. Each team had one FG in the 2nd half. Iowa had 1 punt and ISU had 2 punts. It was the fastest half of football I can remember.
