We haven’t had the pleasure of watching this young (and I mean young) lady play in the states. Is she ready for the pros? That’s a wait and see in my opinion, but she sure is fun to watch. Malonga is uber talented for a 6’6” post and projected to be #2 in the draft. Her biggest detriment is going to be physicality. Personally, I think doing the college route would have been good for her development. Going to be fun to see how she gets along.

That will be interesting to see how she develops and performs. Given the WNBA model, it doesn't seem like they have a lot of room for developmental players. You either perform or you go elsewhere.

I hadn't looked up her stats, but looks like Cardoso from SC is doing ok. She put up 10pts and 8 rebounds averaging 27 minutes last year. She's 6'7" so a decent comparison. Though, she went the college route for her development, of course.

And Cardoso is a physical beast!

Multiple factors:
  1. Age
  2. Injury prone
  3. Background
The article I linked above made it seem like it was overwhelmingly #1. The GM quoted didn’t feel confident in assessing her abilities since she’s been playing against opponents who are 4-6 years younger. Adding in the other two just pushes it over the top.

As is the case in sports, lots of teams seem to be willing to take on players with “baggage” if they are talented enough to help them win. Obviously the league isn’t certain she’s got the talent if nobody would even take a flyer on her.

Either that, or #3 is a huge factor internally but they'd rather not open that can of worms publicly and #1 is a really good excuse as well.
