I would argue the tour has devalued its tournaments with the playoffs. Top guys are not going to play over 20 weeks a year. 4 majors, players, 3 playoff events, 4 WGC’s, and the rest of the “elevated status” events leaves nothing left for other tournaments. Last year’s John Deere Classic is the perfect example. It was the worst OWGR field since 2014.
And I really don’t give a **** about the money. Watching millionaires play for millions isn’t interesting. Making Rory and DJ win by a chip off with the wind blowing 20 mph in off the ocean is interesting.
The John Deere has never had great fields, but last year's was pretty bad I'll give you that. I go to that event every year. Last year was a bad field, but I still had plenty of fun.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about the Fed Ex standings and playoffs. I like it that all the events after the last major are really pretty competitive with good competition because the players are going after that 10 million... or whatever it is now?
And the Fed Ex has no negative effect on the majors IMO. Players still want to win majors more than anything else... and that will always be the case. Fed Ex doesn't change that at all.
