Stamped Concrete vs Patio Blocks

5 years ago we went from this

Very happy with everything but we screwed up by not resealing after a few years. We're going to have to pay a little extra to strip old sealer and Re-seal colored concrete - re-antique. Once that is done, I have it on my calendar to reseal every 3 years.

We replaced a wood deck with this 5 years ago.
We’re very happy with it.
Also, As already mentioned above, needs re sealing every couple years.

I'm looking at ripping the small wooden landing off the back of my house and just putting a patio there instead of the small deck. Does anyone have any experience with the new fangled stamped concrete? ....

If you go concrete, ask your guy if he can do stenciled rather that stamped. It's not quite as deep as stamping so it doesn't accumulate as much dirt. Also easier in winter.

Never been an issue for me. Driveways been in for years. View from window today and during snow storm stuff. Used single and two-stage snow blowers and shovels.

Edit: Just realized I am replying to a REALLY old thread.
Oh, well, screw it, I am bored and it is raining so..........

That looks really nice. Did you do it yourself? Looks like a project I could really **** to total hell.

Hired a pro company that specializes in doing these and nothing else. I'd do a patio or sidewalk but not a driveway, especially one with the all curved edges like mine. They also dug and placed in a substantial gravel base.

It does need a good cleaning since it is on the northside and over the years it's got moss and other green **** growing in some area (house and big ole tree shade = really pretty shady). Also it was before they did the polymeric joint sand. Thinking maybe of giving it a clean power wash and doing the joints with the polymeric stuff

Anybody have any recommendations for a company to pour a stamped/stained concrete patio? I’ve reached out to one but wanted a second quote at least.

Thread Resurrection! I’m looking at both stamped concrete and pavers. I’d do the install on pavers. The stamped concrete I’d probably have somebody do it. I’m in Ankeny. If I do the concrete I’d like to have a smoothed section in the middle with an Iowa State logo in it. Any suggestions on that would be awesome.

Paver install takes much more precision and skill to make sure it last properly. Make sure you get a good base under the pavers if you go that route.
