1 - Same thing has been true for AD donations forever. Donors give big money to places like Texas A&M, Miami, Indiana, etc and they still suck. The donors don't decrease.

2 - Texas A&M is a great example actually. Common sense would tell us poor people that they would feel "burnt", but from everything I've heard, the big donors treat every year as its own opportunity. Their NIL is reportedly actually getting a boost because of the new hope/blood in the program.

3 - Ego/**** measuring will ensure they stay competitive against their peers.
Do they chub it up first?

Hate to see people lose their jobs but that just seems like a bloated AD for no reason other than “we have money that needs to be spent”. It’s just shifting money at this point.

No different than any company out there. When the going is good and the money is flowing in, "Sure, we can and should hire more resources and head count."

As soon as the rough times hit, "Ehhhhh we have too many redundancies in the workforce. We don't need this or that or this role."

And the cycle continues.

They’re going to be making more than ever before.

Another case of **** rolls downhill. These departments are getting paid more than ever, with 3x increases over 20 years. And they need to let go low paid support staff? Lol.

Having to fire low cost staff because players now get some of that huge increase in revenue is another example of how little these ADs contribute past bean counting and crapshoot coaching hires. Just riding the wave of captive market share and the dynamics of linear TV

If you think these are “low paid staff” you didn’t read the article. These are fluff jobs that pay really well that you do very little on a day to day basis.

Bingo! Company leadership freaks out about anything, and the thought of paying players tightens their you know what. Not realizing how much money they are and have been making. Fortune 500 companies do the same even though cutting a bunch of folks that make $50k-$80k isn't going to do anything. But it's an excuse to still do it.

The people let go were making WELL into the 6 figures if I had to guess. Very cool, you can now afford 1 defensive lineman.

My comment was just a general comment about Fortune 500 companies. So these ADs may be people making much more. In the end it’s the same as how companies have always worked. As WhoISthis said, it’s just bean counters and spreadsheets.

I dont understand how they are SO RICH but also SO POOR all at the same time. Can't they do both? Can't they figure out a way to manage a 15-25 million dollar operating budget?
I mean they are paying for multiple huge football coaches salaries. Considering the one they just fired yearly pay is more than what our entire coaching staff for all sports combined and will continue to pay that for nearly a decade, while paying for their new staff at the same time.

It’s just mind boggling how little thought goes into some of the spending. They take on so much risk without batting an eye. These are mostly state schools that can force some of the eventual debt burden back on their taxpayers and students.

This money arms race between the Big 10 and SEC is going to have some big time casualties, mostly taxpayers.
