Speaking of this, I wonder if Iowa will continue the Cy-Hawk game? The last extension was agreed upon in 2022 for the 26 & 27 season.

The pressure will be on both schools to continue that series IMO. Both from a generic fan perspective and the state itself (legislators etc)

Also pressure from Fox and ESPN. That is one of the highest rated Big 12 games.

This is why I don't trust the Private Equity angle at all. Their playbook is very well established and I don't see the big upside here.

You can’t underestimate the role of the University of Texas in destroying some of the best rivalries in Football: Nebby and OU, Notre Dame and USC, here locally, Iowa state and Kstate. UT is literally destroying college sports one rivalry at a time. They are the biggest villain in college sports. I hope they suffer a worse fate than Nebby.

Politicians like to pander for votes even more so than back in the mid-70's. So I'm sure any discussion to discontinue will become a political football.

Possible leverage could be similar to what happened in California, where UCLA has to make annual payments to Cal.

The state of Iowa isn’t going to get involved because it won’t be an Iowa decision. If the B1G creates scheduling road blocks there’s nothing anyone can do about it. If they cancel the series fine, last thing we need is Iowa politicians getting involved… it would be the most little brother thing ever.
