Money raising for NIL

The ISU Foundation's website is pretty bad IMO as far as promoting We Will. They really need to separate out the We Will fund and other athletic funds from academic. It's probably a stop gap fix to just add the We Will fund to the general fund list in order to accept donations but it needs to be cleaned up.

Here are some of the fund information I got in a Dec email sent to Cyclone Club members:

The Champions Circle, Unrestricted Fund, and We Will Fund are key giving opportunities that directly impact Iowa State Athletics. The We Will Fund supports our coaches in recruiting and retaining top student-athletes to represent the Cardinal & Gold. It helps empower Cyclones on and off the field while keeping Iowa State competitive in the Power 4 landscape. The Unrestricted Fund gives the Athletics Department flexibility to direct resources where they are needed most — whether that’s facility upgrades, student-athlete programs, or other priorities that help the department respond quickly to urgent needs. Lastly, the Champions Circle supports strategic initiatives and long-term priorities, ensuring Iowa State Athletics continues to thrive now and for years to come.

So We Will is for revenue sharing. The unrestricted fund just goes to the AD budget and can be used for anything. It seems unclear what the Champion Circle does. Does anyone have any more information on what the champions circle does?

If you have to ask what champions circle is you can’t afford Champions circle.

I have no idea

First rule of Champions Circle is do not talk about Champions Circle….

Probably going to regret this but shooting from the hip here... Hypothetically speaking... Should ISU look to acquire DMACC?? Change the name of those campuses to Iowa State University - Ankeny, Newtown, West Des Moines, etc. (based on location)

In the world of NIL, ISU doesn't have a rich or big fanbase. Can't change that Ag students and engineers make less on average than medical and legal professions.. So we go aggressive into building the fanbase by size, acquiring the largest juco in the state.
  • Adding 34,000 students to the active enrollment base
    • A lot of them buy merch, which is a huge marketing play
  • Trade schools and technical training programing looks have a big future in the current and future economy
    • Some of these trades kids are making HUGE dollars, without the burden of 4-year college debt
  • Plant the flag to own Central Iowa
  • Maybe this makes Mr. Albaugh go all-in on ISU football and men's basketball??
While the mission of a Juco and 4-year school are drastically different, this could help us in the numbers game for the future. Over a 5, 10, 25-year period, this adds tons of potential cyclone fans and could really lock up Central Iowa for the long-term..

What am I missing here?

Or, if we are thinking outside the box, acquire Des Moines University?

Is this a joke? You mean try and do exactly what Iowa tried a few years ago and got schwacked by the board of regents?

Just an fyi, wewill donations doesn’t pay into your cyclone membership level. This is because the foundation has more tax breaks. While cyclone membership you get perks and is taxed more.

Was hoping to use WeWill to bump up my cyclone membership donation level. I cannot.

Is that unique to Iowa State?

Are House Settlement and NIL Collective monies taxable income to the student athletes? I assume they both are.

I still think that’s BS, and I had that conversation with Blum a couple of times when he was with the collective- there’s really no reason why it shouldn’t other than the Cyclone Club being afraid of losing members over it- if that’s the case, maybe they should offer better perks then the 10% I already get off Cy’s Locker Room stuff through the Alumni Association.
If the AD was committed to We Will, they’d offer some sort of perk for it, but as I’ve said before I don’t think JP cares about the Rev Sharing piece, other than it takes money away from CyTown

If you give to the foundation for purposes of obtaining better seat options, that "donation" isn't deductible anyways nor are NIL "donations."

Now I would also offer that unless you do something astromically stupid you aren't going to get caught.

And Jamie most certainly cares about the revenue sharing. He wouldn't be deficit spending to fulfill it if it wasn't important.

I do not think he agrees with Rev Share but know he would lose every coach and we would not be competitive in any major sport if he did not fully fund it.

Its tax law, if the donation has the potential to get you preferential seating or other perks, whether or not you have tickets, it is not deductible. I think its BS that any donation to either fund at any University is deductible. Really doubt many individual taxpayers itemize with the current standard deduction levels anyway.
