LAZARD TO HAVE A BIGGER ROLE?

Separation and hands were a concern. Those are quite important.

I’m not surprised he didn’t go in the first several rounds, but I figured a few teams would take a chance late. His blocking and size alone should have justified that. With a good QB and OC, Lazard is very valuable.

The only thing I recall hearing about him was speed, which he proved otherwise at the combine. There is no such thing as separation in the NFL, it's more a matter of catching balls that may be contested and he had miles of tape showing that ability.

There’s no such thing as separation in the NFL? What ridiculous statement.

Separation isn’t just speed, it’s quickness and getting in and out of cuts, among other things. That’s why you’re seeing more of the smaller receivers.

Lazard also had miles of tape showing questionable hands in the context of the elite level expected in the NFL.

It’s not a surprise Lazard is succeeding with a great QB and a good OC. It’s also not completely surprising he had to take the long way to get there.

That would be really really cool if Hakeem landed there. In any event, I hope he can find a home that allows him to produce. It doesn’t seem like Arizona is where that’s going to happen.

Thread bump: For those who aren't connected with the Packer team, it is very likely that Lazard will begin the season as the #2 WR behind Davante Adams.

I sure hope there's a season....I'm really looking forward to watching #13 have big success with the Pack.

With Funchess now saying he won't play, it definitely moves Lazard up.

I hate the packers as much as any pro sports team but have the utmost respect for how good Rodgers is as well enjoy watching Lazard play so find myself tuning in just to see that connection.

Change Packers to Bears and Lazard to Montgomery (and throw out the whole Rodgers thing as not applicable to the Bears) and I'm in the same camp. Love to watch Cyclones succeed at the next level.

Another life long Bears fan here* and I just can't hate Rodgers. I just want to see as much Rodgers to Lazard as is possible. Love it.

*And growing up in Sioux City I always disliked the Vikings more anyway...

Thread bump: Reporters had an on-line interview with Davante Adams today, here's what Adams had to say about Lazard:

Asked to pick one receiver capable of breaking out in 2020, Adams instantly gravitated towards Allen Lazard, who caught 35 passes for 477 yards last season.

“Allen Lazard is one of the guys that, he’s shown he’s a really talented player on the field and he’s coming into his own confidence-wise,” Adams said. “Once you start to have that true confidence, once you start to believe you’re a really, really good player, and you know your role on the team and all of that. That’s when you start to have an Allen Lazard. He’s a lot more confident. The coaches have obviously shared that with the media, the rest of the team. I’m really excited to see that.”

Lazard was praised by Aaron Rodgers, Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst at one point or another during the offseason. He’s the favorite to be the No. 2 receiver, especially after Devin Funchess opted out of the 2020 season.

I like it.
