ISU v. Arkansas St. Game Thoughts

Both the offensive and defensive game plans were underwhelming. Starting the game with 3 passes when Rocco routinely begins inaccurately was a poor decision. And the roll out sack from the 2 yard line was boneheaded. Thankfully we got the TD on Rocco’s scramble.

Going for the punt block instead of getting the D off the field on a hot day was incredibly dumb.
I agree there were a few play calls that had me wondering, but it's so easy when you have 20-20 hindsight.

Mouser's record as an offensive coordinator is now 14-3. That's right, Iowa State University's offensive coordinator's record is 14-3. That's unbelievable.

One guy we should all highlight through the first quarter of the season is Jontez Williams. We haven’t heard anything from that guy which is the biggest compliment a DB can have. He’s got his side of the field on total lockdown.

Forgive me, but did he play in the second half?

Everybody is so bummed out over the lackluster performance I think we're kind of overlooking Rocco did some insane superman stuff to keep the team undefeated.

They won by 8 and that 8 point scoring drive with 45 seconds pretty much was the game. On his other touchdown I still can't believe he got the pylon, looked like he would be forced out at the 2 or 3 for sure. The confidence to make that throw on third down to seal the game. His "dangerous" throws were tipped or deflected except for one.

The kid is absolutely unreal. I was looking at ISU record books for passing and in just 2.25 seasons he's already our 2nd best QB very clearly. That's just already, not even counting the rest of this season.

The offensive gameplan was coaching malpractice and the only way we lose that game. In a situation where all the intangibles call for a ball control game where we play conservative and use depth and physical dominance to pound one of the worst run defenses in the country ISU did the exact opposite. We should have come in wanting to dominate time of possession and we let them dominate time of possession. I get Mouse is a gunslinger and that's his mentality, but I'm surprised Campbell didn't rein him in. Super lucky it didn't come back to bite us in the ass. Same goes for the all out punt block. Really weird decision making IMO.

I agree with you somewhat. One play I really had a problem with is on the 2 yard line relatively early in the game, take the points there.
I get what they were trying to do with the receivers, we need them to get up to speed. Townsend looks like a good one. Brown probably should play more, Sowell is coming around. Remember it took Hutch a few games to get going. That ball Sowell dropped should have been caught no doubt but it was a little behind him. No excuse for Brahmer on the pick, needs to catch that, or knock it forward so no pick, weird play for him.
