Golesch - South Florida

Imho South Florida is a sleeping giant, way bigger endowment than UCF, more research money and in the words of of the Florida board of governors "one of 3 preeminent research universities in the state of Florida" (UCF not included in that). If the administration would have realized/invested in athletics starting 25 years ago like UCF did I have no doubt the big 12 would have called them first over UCF.

It’s really unfortunate how the Big East fell apart and USF got relegated to the G5. They were ranked #2 in the BCS at one point back in 07.

I see them a bit like Houston. A “lesser” program in a high population state with multiple NFL teams. USF is notoriously a commuter school (similar to UCF). They’re trying to get a stadium on campus. Winning makes it easier to follow and support.

They’re not additive at this point, but they belong in the conversation of fun opponents in a desirable location.

Edit: they’re a natural fit in a depleted XII or ACC if we ever get to that point.

Will Iowa make a run at Golesch?
He will have much better offers, and Kirk isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He might just be moving a little further north to Gainesville next year.
Personally, I know the lure of Florida in the SEC or Wisconsin in the B1G could appeal to some, you would think with a school like Okie St, you'd get a longer leash and more reasonable expectations.

Yeah, but the NIL situation at Oklahoma State without T Boone sounds pretty dire. Though that could just be because no one wants to donate while Gundy is there.

Yeah these last few years he just seems like an ass.
I find myself still trying to like the idea of the Big 8 schools like KState, KU, Okie St, and ISU being better than Baylor, Tech, Arizona, Utah, etc.

Loved watching the Jim Tressell pod where Alex said when he was on staff that CMC told him they would win the NC at Iowa State. Alex said ”Matt really believes that.”
