Friday OT - Granola

I'm shocked you guys co slept! You were a car seat safety nazi so I assumed that applied for sleep too lol. I was very anti co sleeping until my 1st drove me nearly insane with 30-45 min stretches. Wish the US would approach it with a less abstinence and more reality approach. We did some dangerous **** with the 1st avoiding bed co sleeping. Made different choices 2nd time. Now that near 4yr old climbs in every night about 3am and asks so kindly "will you please snuggle me??" And how do I resist?

I was a car seat safety nazi! I have a fundamental disagreement with @Mr Janny over whether our youngest still needs to be in a booster, so that's not gone away or anything!

We had TERRRRRRRIBLE sleepers. I could never do cry-it-out methods, just didn't agree with it for our house, and so our eldest finally just got into bed by attrition. With our youngest, he was in a little co-sleeper thing for a while until he could roll over, and then after that we took the side off a crib and attached it to the bed sidecar. (It was all pushed up against the wall flush and then the bed against it, so there were no gaps.)

It's also amazing how the circumcision thing is different in different parts of the US, and especially vs Europe.

My 1st would puke before the 10 minute mark. He sleep trained US. My 2nd learned how to escape the crib. We ****** around and found out.

I got into long distance backpacking/through hiking a few years ago. Life lived on the trail makes everyone have massive hippie vibes, even if people aren’t like that in normal life.

You smell like a hippie by day 4 even if you can find streams/lakes to clean up. When you get back to civilization a roof feels awkward. The food is “hippie food” because that’s the kind of stuff that lasts weeks, is nutritious, yet light weight. There are legitimate “far out” moments in certain places too.

The 4 day/80 mile mark is where I really become kind of uncivilized and wild looking and smelling.

If you don’t see me for 2-3 weeks either I got banned (more often lately) or I’m way beyond having any cell phone connection.

Spouse and I are big on plastic minimization in the house.
Reusable bags, order cleaning chemicals via compostable packaging (Blueland), etc.
We have solar and an electric car. Do out best to try to commute together to work.
She's a vegetarian, and most of the meat in the house is from the deer I shot last Fall. We've also signed up for a CSA.

This is awesome. We are getting close to a zero plastic, zero teflon kitchen. It’s also generally just better cooking equipment and longer lasting anyway.

Probably about as close as I get is not fertilizing or using weed killers on the lawn. I used to, but gf doesn't like them, and I am too lazy to care at this point.
Lawn looks like garbage, like a public park. But its huge, has poor sandy soil, and is sloped south. So it greens up nice in spring, then as soon as it goes 5 days without rain in June, just burns up and goes dormant.

I might plant prairie grass.

Does solar panels count? Techno-hippie?

I suppose one thing I do is do things outdoors with limited energy use, i.e. only paddling/no motors and tent camping and basically 'backpack' even if it's out of the car.

No big grills or extra stuff. A big part of that is less hassle but also having less impact on where ever I go. Even at actual camping parks/sites I'll have the cleanest and barest camp while the site down the way basically has entire porch and kitchen set up.

Also when I fly fish it's more about the interaction with the natural world vs. making some calculated tactical plans like I'm going to battle.
