This keeps being said, but I don't understand it at all.. Ech decided on 149 last year which forced Swiderski to cut.. What has changed ? Especially with the health issues I don't know what the motivation would be.
After Swiz got hurt I believe, Ech was headed down because he was offerred more NIL money I think I saw somewhere to go down, because our strongest lineup last year was Ech 141, Johnson 149 and Chittum 157.

I could see that at the time not knowing J Frost would be the only AA

Not saying you’re wrong because I know it happened. But with Paniro going out without any meaningful points, our best team would be Jacob at 141 and Ech at 149, you’d think. I don’t get the idea that Paniro/Jacob at 149 is better than Ech at 149 and Jacob at 141. Ech can finish top 5 at both weights but will have a very challenging time winning either weight. If Henson takes a redshirt or goes up to 157 I’d rather have Ech at 149 as I think he’d have a better chance to win it.

Opinions aside.. the current cyclones.com roster does show Ech 141 and Jacob 149

Ech is a title contender at 141. Not sure he is big enough to be a title contender at 149
Not being big enough is a problem but 141 will be harder to win with Mendez, Stanich, Hardy, Composto, Bailey, Jack, and Aden Valencia. Oh and whoever those Penn state and Oklahoma state teams put out there. That’s a really deep weight so quarters, semis, and finals are going to be a dog fight

I think 41 is deeper than 49, but Henson and Van Ness concern me more than any other 41 not named Mendez. I also feel like size may be an issue up at 49. I imagine his infection and lengthy recovery process caused him to lose a little mass making 41 more attainable. You can list potential tough matchups at each weight, he needs to go out and earn it either way. I feel its not only better for him at 41, but better for the team as well.

I agree he’s going to have to earn it and it won’t come easy. He’s coming back from the injury and been off the mat for awhile now. Stanich, Valencia, Hardy, and composto are very high level guys that have wrestled international competition and had good wins recently. I personally just think 149 isn’t as deep with guys who are proving it right now. Jordan Williams is 5th currently and Casey is 6th. It’s almost like worst case scenario he’s wrestling for 7th/8th at either weight and best case scenario he’s wrestling on Saturday night. Just needs to be healthy and noting is a given

People forget that Ech was seconds away from being an NCAA finalist at 141 just a year and a half ago.

That’s wrestling, Beau Bartlett was nearly a national champion as well. The margin for error is so incredibly small, that’s why he could be going for 7/8th or in the finals.

Safe to say everyone agrees his ceiling is national champ at 141. What do you think his floor is?
We didn’t get a huge sample size at 149, but I think with his style and build, his floor is higher at 141. I think he throttles anyone outside of the top 10 at 141 but not so sure about 149.

Again just my opinion.

Okay but that doesn’t really answer the question. Right now Aden Valencia is ranked 19th and Nasir Bailey is ranked 11th. Another interesting one is Vince Cornella at 16. Head and shoulders above all 3 of those guys? Those guys are all in a separate tier, or even a couple below? Would you have AE in tier 1 with Mendez only? Genuinely just curious more than anything. 141 is going to be a great weight with a lot of interesting matchups
