The Super Mario Bros Movie

HUGE Mario fan - love every game from the franchise. Will enjoy the movie but it's going to have very high expectations.

This seems like its impossible to pull off. Chris Pratt seems okay, but too many of the "Gamer" crowd are gonna freak out about it not being the guy that does Mario in the games. But if they used that guy I'm not sure it translates well to a feature length film. Game Mario's voice is pretty grating.

It sounds like Chris Pratt is going with more of a Brooklyn accent (you can hear it in the "Mushroom Kingdom, here we come" line). It was going to be hard to ever hear anyone other than Charles Martinet as the voice of Mario, but I'm going to keep an open mind about it. Jack Black as Bowser is a great fit and it wasn't obviously his voice at first. Also the little bit of Charlie Day as Luigi at the end is promising.

As for the trailer itself, the tone is great! The Mario franchise is weird, and quirky, and colorful, so to try and make it serious would have been a mistake. Overall, I would say I am cautiously optimistic with this movie.

Why would they not use Martinet? You're making an animated movie and you don't use the guy that's voiced that character in every game for decades? WTF. Did he turn it down or something?

I was not interested at all when I first learned of this movie but after the trailer I'm intrigued. Lots of voice acting fire-power but will certainly be weird hearing the unfamiliar voices doing Mario/Luigi.

Totally unacceptable voice over. Mario has decades of history, and to just throw it out the window for big name voice talent indicates a lack of faith in the franchise. Penguins are suppose to sound like this:

IMO the Brooklyn accent is totally the way to go, as an "Americanized" version of Mario, and at the risk of being a huge nerd, jives with the canon established in the classic Super Mario Brothers Super Show

That said, the accent is pretty light. Still just kinda sounds like Chris Pratt. Which.. meh.

The movie does seem a bit late, but Mario is def. still a thing. Multigenerational.

I'm sure it's late in part because Nintendo is very gun-shy following the crappy 90's movie.
The Sonic franchise is killing it for what it is and this will do as well.

Also, Illumination is the top dog in computer animated movies and has been for a while now. Pixar be damned.
