High School Sports Thread

You can get by with 1 stud pitcher and 1 very good pitcher. The year Gilbert was the runner up, their pitcher throw every inning but one or two. They could do that because that year they started the 2A games on the Saturday before the tournament. Gilbert threw the heck out of that kid that year and lost the championship game to Davis Co. 2 to 1 I believe. The way the 2A tournament lined up that year, the innings pitched did not come into play for those schools.
You can’t do that anymore. The tourney is 3 games in 3 or 4 days. Only way a guy can go twice is to throw a few innings in a blow out in game 1 then come back in the title game.

Edit:
26-40 pitches requires one day off. 41-65 is 2 days. 66-90 is 3 and 91+ is 4.

It’s 26-40 for 1 day.

There is and a cumulative effect. So a pitcher can’t throw 25 pitches 4 straight days.

Ya they changed the rules over what it used to be. Watching Carlisle in the 4A softball final, they commented that they played Fort Dodge three games so far in the tournament. That has to be changed for next season.

Get rid of it. Only 2 out of the 10 teams in the finals lost their first or second round game anyway. Every high school team sport in iowa is single elimination. Softball doesn’t need to fix a problem that’s not there.

Nothing wrong with the format, just need to send the teams that lose their first game to the other half of the bracket. Crazy the Carlisle and Fort Dodge played each other 3 times.

You need 2 studs and a 3rd very good pitcher on stand by if you want to compete for a state title in baseball. Only one day rest between games. If you throw over 40 pitches you can't pitch in the next game. If you throw 6-7 innings in the first game, you probably won't be able to pitch the rest of the tournament since you more than likely threw over 90 pitches.

I agree with this. They were already playing out the entire consolation bracket in years past anyway so I think the double elimination is a good idea.

Probably because U1 was behind the second baseman due to where runners were. U3 would have had the better look.
This is correct. The college mechanic is that you go to the umpire that is on the line when rotated or counter-rotated. Many of these guys work some form of college softball and prefer that mechanic as the umpire on the line has the better look.

Newman breaks it open in the bottom of the 5th with 5 runs including a grand slam to go up 7-0 heading in to the 6th.
