Michigan retained the vast majority of the players and many of the key coaches so it’s a little different.

I also have never dinged CMC for being new, I have dinged his recruiting which the new Michigan staff have done as good or better of a job compared to PSU’s recruiting freefall

I think it’s just Matt trying to make an excuse as to why he took all our two deeps with him. Does anyone with even half a brain think he wouldn’t have taken those guys with him if Mouser was our next coach? C’mon people!

I think he was mostly just trying to paint a picture of himself being solely concerned with the wellbeing of the kids and putting their needs above all else. When everyone knows he just got done making a decision based on what he thought was going to give him the best chance to win (and make himself tens of millions of dollars in the process).

To me it’s all fairly disingenuous. I think his primary thought was making sure he had a critical mass of kids able to hit the ground running with his system when he started at Penn State. It’s probably true that some kids wouldn’t have been a good fit at ISU anymore given the new coach and new system, so those kids were going to need a new home. But I doubt that applies to the majority of the kids he took with him.

Are you able to provide an example of a single instance of an Iowa State fan expecting another Iowa State fan to be happy for him? Or encouraging others to be happy for him?

Im pretty sure I already said the fact we had some really good skill position players makes people forget how inept we were in other areas. How many offensive lineman went to the NFL? Other than McDonald how many defensive lineman went to the NFL. There probably isn't a program thats had more guys go to the NFL and have Hall of Fame careers over the last 25 years than Pitt and look how many titles theyve won.

I guess being disappointed but understanding = “being happy for him”.

To make matters worse, there’s inside sources saying players were wearing PSU gear around campus too

That is how their last 10 or so seasons under Franklin went and Penn State fans have been calling for his head for a long time. They aren’t going to be happy cause it’s a new guy suddenly doing the same.

They're not gonna pay $80M to fire a guy one season in, either. He's got plenty of runway yet. I don't think the fans will be as vicious as many expect, they're used to keep coaches around.

Sure, with the administration. We will see on fans, but I think they will turn on him fast. They aren’t going to appreciate the slow ball control offense that keeps them close with bad teams either.

A decade or so ago on the Toledo message boards people were saying something similar to what you're saying. "Why would he leave 9-10 wins a year and job security to take over a perennial big 12 loser" etc...

Player development goes a long ways. Has Michigan been winning lately? And its not like Michigan State was reeling in top 10 classes all those years they were winning 10+ games yearly with Dantonio. As it turns out having a staff with a plan gets you somewhere. Do I think hes as good as Dantonio? No, but you get my point. You guys wanted him gone so bad and you got it. Hes was arguably the best coach in college football and you guys (basically) canned him to move onto better things that have yet to show up.
