On That Note: Livin' it up at the Hotel ...

Picture book, your mama and your papa
And fat old Uncle Charlie
Out boozing with their friends
Picture book, a holiday in August
Outside a bed and breakfast
In sunny Southend
Picture book, when you were just a baby
Those days when you were happy
A long time ago

Near the old abandoned drive in
There's a brand new Motel 6
It's hard to make a livin'
But you work to get your kicks
You don't know how you got here
But it comes as no surprise
When the rust gets in your engine
And the dust gets in your eyes

The Beatles,

The Ballad of John and Yoko

Drove from Paris to the Amsterdam Hilton
Talking in our beds for a week
The newspapers said, "Say what you doing in bed?"
I said, "We're only trying to get us some peace"

Rocky Raccoon

So one day, he walked into town
Booked himself a room in the local saloon
And Rocky Raccoon checked into his room
Only to find Gideon's Bible

She said, "My car's broke down, and you seem real nice
Would ya let me ride?"
I got a car full of girls, and it's goin' real swell
The next stop is the Eastside Motel

Workin' in a hotel, workin' for the housedick
You stop a little girl who's pullin' in her own tricks
Talk awhile, get a smile, make another sidekick
It won't last long but it beats feelin' homesick

So we jumped on a plane then we hopped on a train
We made our way to Barcelona Spain
We check into our gaudy hotel
Ordered room service with more cowbell

Yup, got it on vinyl...

You book the hotel, I'll pack the bags, honey
You phone the airlines, I'll call a cab
When will you return? Well, that all depends
Just tell your mother that you're staying with friends
