KXNO Sports Fanatics

Listening to Ross and Travis for the first time to get their opinion.

They mentioned that KXNO recently started streaming video on YouTube and other sources live which I did notice. They mentioned Condon was forced to buy all the cameras/software to make it happen.
I didn't take it as him being forced to do it. I took it that he did it on his own. Good for him I guess but why spend your own money for a large corporation? I would not do that.

I am listening to Miller and Condon now. Sad day for local sports talk. It is interesting they ran an add that had Ross Peterson as the voice for a Jay's CD and Hobby and the KXNO silver anniversary commercial for their Vegas giveaway. I assume this is kaput with only one local host left to go. I also listened to a bit of the rush and it was bush league that IHeart called Shawn and Lucas right after a remote to tell them they were done. I agree with Travis when he said I would make them come and pickup their equipment and the car.

Yup, that's exactly the attitude I'd have if I got let go from my job. I'd grab what I could of my stuff on the way out the door and anything else is the company's problem to deal with. You really don't owe them anything in that moment. I saw Keith Murphy finally posted something and mentioned that on his last day at KXNO thay came in and took their keycards halfway during their final show.

At the company I work for when they do layoffs they put a meeting on your calendar not long before they inform you and by the time you are done with that meeting your system access is usually turned off and you might be lucky enough to get to stop back at your desk (if in the office that day) and grab any of your personal items before you leave the building. You still get full pay and benefits after that for 2 months before your severance kicks in. Years ago they'd still make you work at least 30 days to transition your work over before your severance kicks in but guessing they no longer want to risk a disgruntled employee potentially causing problems while they wait out their layoff notice period.

Travis and Ross seem almost likeable in this interview of Jamie. Interview starts at around 1:04. (Posted in CyTown update thread)

Great interview. Went in pretty deep about the current state of college sports, the financial reality of what Iowa State and the Big 12 and ACC are facing, Cytown, the Texas Tech situation and some reminiscing about his time at Iowa State. Old Pollard doesn't hold much back.

Good position to be in in life when you don't need a job. You can say/do what you want and if it gets you in trouble/costs you the job (unlikely in his case) oh well you can just move on to the next chapter of your life and be perfectly fine.

Yup, have had some upper level managers over the years you knew they were either getting close to retiring or about to move on to something else when their tone changed and they were all the sudden and open book. Was attending a large town hall meeting an auditorium once after an announced re-org/merge happened and the manager leading it starts it off by saying "the HR folks in the room right now are probably not going to be happy with what I am about to say but I am not going to lie to you. You better get your resumes up to date because there a a good chance at least half of you won't have a job here in a year." After the re-org was finished they announced he was retiring - rumor was his position was actually cut and they just gave him a severance package he rolled into retirement. Had another high level manager about 2 years out from his retirement all the sudden become an open book with his thoughts too that seemed out of character from the company line he usually toed since I knew him. So there is some truth to it, when some people are at the point they see retirement nearing or are already planning to leave that's when you start to get some real truths from them because they just don't care who they piss off anymore.

There were folks here that had their criticism/dislikes for Cotlar when he was on the air, but I bet looking back now and compare his show then to what we have for shows now a lot more people probably would prefer Cotlar. Like Ken he had a lot of friends in the sports industry and had a lot of regular guest segments. It was a shame that he fell victim to Marty's antics as it was pretty well known that he and Marty did not get along. Cotlar's producer at the time was Geoff Conn who left the mic hot when Marty stormed in after Cotlar's show and dropped the infamous F bombs on air that got all 3 of them fired.
All about press passes that belonged to Cotlar.

Your link brings me to a website.
Was there something else here? I feel like I missed it. (I'm not being snarky at all, just wish I could see maybe what you saw)
It added an ad to my post while I was typing. I’m not sure I’d I screwed something up while typing or if it’s some new “feature.” It took me to the website too when I tried to delete it. Just ignore the link. It’s nothing
