Don’t miss him at all. Dude so not worth that amount of money. So glad we didn’t re-sign him so we could get PCA signed long term.

What was better Jim Palmer is color guy on Orioles network and during a game said something like: Tucker is making $240M over the next 4 years and the way he's hitting isn't worth $240M over the next 40 years!

He has plenty of protection in that lineup too that he should be hitting a lot better than he is. I see they have moved him down to 6th in the lineup now but the bulk of his AB this season have come batting 2 4 or 5 in the lineup.

Will be interesting to see how long Dodgers fans and media will tolerate him. Can't imagine he will be exercising his opt outs either, lol.

Billion dollar talent. 10 cent head.

I was pretty upset with Jed in the moment for not even trying but somehow the albatross that is the Bregman contract is better spent. At least he wants to be there and is helping the kids.

While Bregman hasn't hit as well as we hoped for he's still a 2.0 WAR player so far. Tucker is a 0.8 WAR at the moment. That's a pretty sad number for as much as he got paid.

Cam Smith .654 OPS
Matt Shaw .755 OPS
We’ll see how these two as well as the two big contract guys associated look at the end of the season. But for now I’m glad we have Shaw and Bergman.

I'm a bit confused on the thought process here, did we acquire Matt Shaw for Cam Smith? And had we not traded Cam Smith for Tucker, would that have prevented us from signing Bregman?

What Cam Smith turns into is immaterial, had we not traded him for Tucker we could have traded him for someone else and the Cubs trading a valuable asset for a one year rental given how unlikely it was that they would compete for a championship was idiotic.

some players dealt at or before the trade deadline last year: Rafeal Devers, Mason Miller, Carlos Correa all of whom are still under contract for at least this season. Of course that was the point, ole scrooge McRicketts didn't want to acquire a player he'd have to actually pay market value to.

Whatever Cam Smith ends up doing, that trade was stupid and a complete waste. Turns out Tucker wasn’t worth it, but even that is beside the point. For a rental, it was a painfully stupid trade.

We kept Shaw instead of Smith. ( Tucker trade) Shaw is more productive and plays multiple positions well. We traded Smith not Shaw. We let Tucker go and signed Bergman. Really not that difficult to connect those dots Clark.

My big problem with that series of trades is from a roster construction standpoint.

We trade Smith for Tucker basically swapping an established RF for a prospect and then decided to let the established player go. This whole transaction could end up being a wash in the Cubs avoided paying 9 figures for a player tanking on the the backside of his career and Smith is hitting .220 in year 2 and hasn't shown crazy slug (7 homers in 260 AB's in 2026). But the Cubs still don't have their future LF or RF if Happ/Suzuki depart in FA. And even though Shaw can play OF, he hasn't shown the slug a team would want in either corner OF spot.

Adding Bregman at 3rd in isolation is OK. But we added a player where the pipeline is deep. Especially after re-signing Hoerner. The Cubs had Shaw, Ramirez & Rojas in line to play 3B. Sure Bregman becomes a FA in 2028, so its not like a crazy long-term deal, but feel like the Cubs could have better spent $40M AAV at other positions to make the 2026 & 2027 Cubs a World Series contender.

Jed Hoyer Says it is "Unrealistic" to Expect Big League Starts from Justin Steele This Year - Bleacher Nation

This makes me think that making a big splash at the deadline on a top end of the rotation arm is less likely. Just too many holes in the pitching staff to plug at this point with all the injuries. If we still had a healthy Horton and not had a string of injuries or ineffectiveness from the rest of the rotation adding another starter at the deadline and a healthy Steele returning to the rotation would be the boost needed to make a push late in the year.

Cabrera has the physical tools but he is a mental midget. His body language is so ******* poor

Have to give Cabrera credit. He avoided the big inning and came back strong the last two. Get through five with a five run lead and it feels good. Not great, but good.
