I’m seeing gusty winds every day. Sure it will change but it’s going to be interesting as the week progresses and we get the tee times. I’d love to see a winner well over par again.

It's interesting how many great golf courses there are in the country and it seems they rotate between the same courses over and over and then throw in an outlier every once in a while
I think the problem is that most of the great golf courses aren't set up to host a PGA event, let alone a major. There needs to be serious infrastructure in place to work well at an event.

And the club has to be able to survive basically 18 months with no revenue as the USGA people come in and get the course ready for play with very, very few rounds being permitted to be played.

Thanks, that makes sense. Beth Page can shut down the Black course but leave the other four courses open. Shinnecock has 4 courses so they would still have 3 open.

They start the buildouts in January/February for these tournaments; it's not 18 months in advance.

My oldest daughter worked for the USGA when the US Open was held at Pinehurst # 2. They started the buildout in January of 2024 for the US Open in June of 2024. We visited her in April of 2024, and they were still playing the course. Pinehurst #2 didn't close the course to members and guests until two or three weeks before the US Open. It was back open to the members a week after the US Open; they just had to play around all the workers who had to deconstruct everything they had built. They had everything torn down and gone a month after the US Open.

She also worked for the USGA in 2023 at LA CC, and they were open to their members up until two weeks before the US Open. They had to reopen to their members within two weeks after the US Open.

They really schedule these things way in advance.
The USGA has three courses that they have invested money in:
  • Pinehurst # 2
  • Pebble Beach Golf Links
  • Oakmont
So you will see from the future schedule that those three are in the rotation regularly. Pinehurst #2 has a USGA satellite office, and you will continue to see the US Open there (both men's and women's).

I must have taken a place where they had to do a full renovation and applied it to all sites. Good to know. Thanks!

Shinnecock does not have four courses. There are three other prestigious private courses in the area but they are all stand alone clubs.

Their website shows 4 course rankings. I suppose that could just be the tees
