Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Why do you think it's not a genuine effort?

Also, doesn't it make sense for them to bring it people in the industry to talk about the bill that would have a huge impact on them? Who else would they ask?
Because they put in too many things that faction congress

Because those impacted are likely to be self-serving

Oof that’s a horrible look. This is kinda like when the US opened some corruption inquiry’s into FIFA because they didn’t really care enough about soccer to worry about pissing they off. She obv could care less about college sports which is why she’s willing to take a swing. DOA now as if it already wasn’t

She has a P2 constituency in addition to WSU

I’m going to give her benefit of the doubt, and this is savvy politics. Author a bill, but use weaponized incompetence to make sure not to upset majority of your voters

You mean part of America. The minority part.

We can admit that much of P2 should be against change. They have monopoly on subsidies from elites right now. And P2 HQ absolutely should be against pooling, as it threatens their existence
They think it threatens their existence.

She is correct based on the fact that multiple Universities (including some in the SEC and B10) are moving dollars from their General (or other) Funds to cover Athletic deficits and that the SEC and B10 (acting on behalf of ESPN and Fox) are doing everything possible to quash pooling even though they both likely double their media revenues by playing ball.

General fund money is not R&D money.

It would be nice to get a detailed list of this and to see information on why the funds are being moved or used in some cases. Like is it an Arizona massive accounting error being covered, a coaches buyout, a facilities remodel or upgrade, or even just an internal loan.

Know that’s probably impossible to create but would give a lot of insight

Yep the America that just watched college sports at record levels since Covid is the one being screwed. Have you let them know they are being screwed because they certainly don’t feel that way based on viewing habits
I'm starting to come around to something like this viewpoint as much as it could hurt ISU. So far there have been no real consequences in terms of viewership; as you pointed out quite the opposite. I don't believe that even if the P2 broke away their viewership would take much of a hit.

Maybe it's always been this way, but I am beyond ready for the sport to settle into a period of stability.

“Hi I’m Nick Saban, I cheated my way to all my championship by illegally paying players and profiting off their ability to not change schools even though I was a HC at 3 different college programs and one NFL program. Once everyone could play by the same rules I used I couldn’t win and got embarrassed a lot so I quit and now I want to tell you why this new way that I couldn’t succeed in is wrong for me and the SEC”

Saban is a ******* ****

pooling of tv rights across 70+ schools absolutely threatens existence of conference HQ, at least as we know them

Pooling of rights to make money off rights is the primary function of conference HQ. Then scheduling. Both of which are at a level above conference HQ in super pooling

Where are the offices of NFL conferences and divisions?

Here is latest list of what schools are spending on their athletic programs, it does not break it down on why they are doing it, but gives very good insight into how much money some schools are taking from their general fund to support athletics. The last column shows the percentage of the total the school is kicking in, at ISU its 1.66%.
