Will be interesting to see who leaves the rotation once Boyd returns. Sounds like Cabrera will be back first so he’s definitely replacing Wicks but Boyd was trash before the injury, his successful second rehab assignment wasn’t exactly stellar. It will most likely be Rea because he’s better suited to be long relief but I don’t think Shota JaMo or Boyd are upgrades over Rea.

Rea will probably piggyback on Boyd's starts if he has a short outing. I don't see them taking Shota or Taillon out of the rotation.

Just get Wicks completely off the squad period. Send to AAA, hell even AA I don’t even give a ****. Just keep him many many miles away from Chicago.

Just thinking beyond this year and the rotation - I think this deadline I focus on the 2027 rotation while still winning in 2026. Meaning I’m not taking a rental arm, I want a young guy with control.

Skubal ($40M)
King ($25M?)
New Acquisition (pre-arb?)
Cabrera (Arb)
Steele (Arb)
Brown (Arb)

With a Rae option, Wiggins hopefully healthy, Birdsell hopefully back. Complete overhaul from the **** show we have this year.

Boyd has not been great but He will atleast keep you in the game and his last start before his knee injury was a good one. The Rotation needs to be Brown, Boyd, Shota, Cabrera and then figure out the 5th Spot which will be Taillon or Rea. I believe they would pick Taillon and then use Rea to piggyback off Shota or Boyd. Wicks should not throw another pitch for the Cubs in the majors. Let him go somewhere else when his contract is up. He will not be a good pitcher for the Cubs.

Wicks throws hard but his stuff is poor.

He didn’t have a single swing and miss until the third inning.

I just don’t see any potential for him to click. Does he even have a plus pitch?

At one time it was his change. He dominated his rookie debut. Since then not so much.

Makes me wonder how bad the rest of our AAA rotation is for him to get a call up.

Had an elite change that the incredible pitch lab destroyed by having him add velocity. He was so much better when the fastball sat at 92 with movement to play off the 87 mph change.

Now the fastball has flattened out and the change doesn't have anywhere to slot into.

Going to be interesting to see what arms are available at the deadline and what the asking prices will be. younger team/cost-controlled arms especially I have a feeling are going to require significant prospect to acquire this year. Not against it as I'm not sold that some of our prospects are going to be difference makers in the future. Also have our own prospect in Wiggins that we can hopefully get healthy and enough starts in Iowa that maybe he can get a callup later in the season to see what he can offer much like Horton last year.

I watched him in Des Moines a few weeks back and he got shelled by AAA hitting. His stuff is not good at all.

The Athletic had a listing of their top 50 prospects plus 10 more players in the minor leagues, the Cubs did not have a player on the list that I saw. St. Louis had 4 in their top 50.

Would be nice to move Rea to the pen, would solve a lot of bullpen problems. I'm not sure we can afford to not have him starting right now. But like you say, maybe just have him ready cause Boyd is not going deep into a game often.

That wasn’t my idea. I think Rea is second to only Brown right now in our rotation.
