I thought Sheep Detectives looked awful but the reviews are very very strong so we're going to see it next week. Glad to know you enjoyed it.

The last movie that comes to mind we saw in a theater that I walked out thinking 'ok that was actually really good' was probably The Long Walk or Bring Her Back.

We just watched the older (10-12 years old probably) Eden Lake with Michael Fassbender and it's still as gut-wrenching the second time around. It's just....brutal. I can't believe more people don't mention it as one of the more disturbing movies they've seen.

JoJo Rabbit

I went in knowing it would be good. But I came out gobsmacked. I texted a good friend who knows more about film than I'll ever forget and said "Saw JoJo Rabbit, easily my #1 of the year. Absolutely brilliant." He responsed "A comedy about Nazis? Huh. Ok I'll have to check it out." He went the following week and agreed. In his words, "Just stellar."

For the last 15 years or so I have had very low expectations when it comes to movies, and I'm still usually disappointed. I'm not sure a movie has really shocked me during that time but there have been a few that were better than I thought they would be. That new Brendan Fraser movie was really good. Can't recall the name of it.

Jo Jo Rabbit immediately came to mind for me, but I'll add a few others.

Ford vs Ferrari was way better than I hoped. It quickly became one of those movies that I'll stumble on and finish it regardless of where I jump in.

Also, I feel like I fell into a great period of animated movies when my daughter was growing up. Wall-E, Up, The Incredibles and How To Train Your Dragon all had some really great writing that had me enjoying the movie far more than I imagined.

In the 90s a bunch of us went to the movies and I had to absolutely beg them to see Office Space, they thought it looked stupid as hell and man what a great theater experience that was.

It’s probably crazy to say it…. but JoJo Rabbit just might be my favorite movie of all time. Easily top 5 or 10.

Venom: The Last Dance Gotta love a monster with a great sense of humor.

Wife and I volunteer at the local theater where we have seen some blatantly poor first-run movies, so I wasn't expecting much, and had no clue, but liked it so much that we hunted down the first two films (probably even rented one of them, which we almost never do).

Tom Hardy was way off my radar, but since then have enjoyed him in the otherwise despicable Mobland, and also much younger in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", the 2011 which I just recently watched for the first time (took me a while to recognize him).

I put Jo Jo Rabbit in the same category as movies like Sideways and Glory, technically brilliant and beautifully shot but so god damn depressing I never care to see them again.

I was never a big Brendan Fraser fan so I didn't watch The Whale when it was first out. When I finally watch it he and the movie blew me away.

Infinity War but only because I don’t watch trailers- I had no clue Thanos would actually win. Ending was shocking to me.

Talk to Me, had very low expectations.

28 years later, figured I was in for another sequel where they were just cashing in on a decent brand.
