Donovan Davis announced on May 6th that he committed to the Cyclones!!!

Saying a Sweet 16 is an underachievement is they lazy assessment. In the Sweet 16, its basically all good teams and you're looking at a coin flip game or maybe a little better. Add in the fact that your top, all American player got hurt and its not an under achievement at all.

Year 1: Massive overacheivement
Year 2: Moderate underachievement but a 6 losing to an 11 isn't insane
Year 3: Lost a coinflip game
Year 4: Lost a coinflip game without 1 star and another hobbled start
Year 5: Lost a coinflip game without an All American.

Would like to win more of these coinflip games, but if the team was fully healthy the last 2 years and lost, I'd be more concerned.
Context also matters.
TJ's first sweet 16 - team was an 11 seed and massively overachieved. Huge success to get there.
TJ's 2nd sweet 16 - could be argued the biggest letdown due to the situation. No big injuries, lost by 3 to Illinois though you could also argue that team as a whole overachieved due to the offensive limitations
This year - losing Jefferson puts an * next to this one to me. Beating Kentucky without him was good, and I think we beat Tennessee with him.

It’s amazing how insecure some of you are. They accomplished something we’ve done once in program history. Give them their props. TJ is never going to have an issue bringing in talent and we’ll be fine. But their guy can coach. All of those national championships didn’t have Stirtz on the roster.

HUGE difference in division II vs division 1.
HIGE difference in mid majors vs P6 (recruitment, NIL, competition)

Could McCollum be a great coach at Iowa? Sure. But it is FAR TOO EARLY to make conclusions. He needs to prove himself over time like Otz has

Since we're talking overall program and how TJ is doing, I think a fair comp would be Purdue in school and what we think we could achieve here.
Painter and TJ basically had pretty similar starts.
It took Painter 14 years to break thru the S16 to an E8.
I feel like it won't take TJ that long, and I feel like we would have done it this year if Josh doesn't get hurt.

We've got a bright future.

The Elite 8 was a huge windfall for Iowa Basketball and we shall see how they do moving forward without Stirtz. Jess Settles even said that the Hawks beating Florida was a 1 out of 10 occurrence. But, they did it when it counted and it's tough to totally discount that.

Continued success in any power conference is tough as other coaching staffs will eventually come up with ways to be successful against most offensive or defensive tendencies.
Well ol Jess was wrong. Iowa had a 20% chance of winning according the actual betting odds. It’s not tough to totally discount a fluke win in a one and done tournament and happens all the time every year. Florida was overrated and overhyped all year due to playing in an overinflated conference. But you be you and keep fluffing them. That win is the best they’ll get to experience for another 20 years.

3 of the 4 other teams if he doesn't pick Iowa will piss the hawks off. Bet they are scouring to see who "they wanted more"

I think Iowa is probably the odd man out from all of these schools. The crystal ball is in our favor, and I imagine he would choose Wisconsin or Nebraska over Iowa.
