Brent Metcalf Head Coach?

Didn’t realize Drake was looking to get into coaching ASAP and wasn’t planning to compete after college.

The more you hear, the more it seems like this will be a slam dunk hire.
Who says Drake isn’t competing? I don’t have any inside information but there is no rule that you can’t compete and coach at the same time. It happens all the time.

They still have another assistant to hire. The NCAA are now allowing up to 4 full-time coaches that can all recruit.

He did say in an interview that the NCAAs would be the last time he’ll step on the mat. Obviously he can change his mind.

They did say on Flo that he was done competing and wanted to coach

Just going off exactly what was said in the video I was commenting on.

OK - This is maybe where I've been getting confused. I was under the impression that this was for the 2nd assistant position. Essentially the role that DSJ has filled for the last 10 years. I'm not sure, but I think it's pretty rare for a guy coming directly out of undergrad to go directly to that position. Usually they start as a grad assistant or something.

According to the post above, the rules have changed which is news to me and makes me much more ok with this hire. I do think we need someone a bit more experienced with the final hire but that's just my opinion.

I'm sure it happens all the time. Ian Parker--to name just one--was hired as an assistant coach at Army at the end of his collegiate wrestling career.

I don't know why you're questioning his qualifications.

Wasn’t St John a full assistant at North Dakota State under Kish immediately after he finished wrestling? He spent one year there then went to VTech under Dresser. I could be wrong from a semantics perspective, but until he was elevated two days ago, St John has been filling the same role he’s had since he started right out of college.

Drake is replacing Nano as he transitions to the CRTC.

Someone send Yonger that guys address to go straighten him out.
I'm not impressed with the hire. But I don't need to be. Metcalf gets to choose his people. If the program doesn't improve (and it needs to IMO), then I can tune out.
