I know, I know, but seriously… Bring Back Baseball

We’re one of only like four power conference team that don’t have it. Over 300 Division 1 teams have baseball. North Dakota State does.

Part of the problem is that we have traditionally been a northern outpost in a N-S conference, and also have to manage resources more tightly than other more well-resourced schools.

The SEC is in the south so no issues with baseball there. The big 10 at least for the most part can compete on fairly even footing since they have all been in the north until the addition of USC\UCLA. The ACC is mostly coastal, and their northern outpost Syracuse doesn't have baseball. Their other northern schools don't have a lot of success either.

It doesn't make much sense for ISU to try to be competing in a sport with limited interest that doesn't work well with our local weather, in a southern dominated sport, in a conference where we'd be at a disadvantage.

I can’t wait until Pollard is gone for a while and people feel like it’s ok to dream big again.

It's not about dreaming big. It's about common sense. There's no ******* money.

Video board project got scaled back.
Facility renovations are on hold indefinitely.
Scrambling to pay players.

But sure, let's just find $50-100M in the couch cushions to add a sport that will play about 12 home games per year (out of 50+), with the majority of those in 45-degree weather.

Maybe I'll go over to the Washington State board and demand they start wrestling. After all, there are certain things a Division 1 school should just be able to do.

We're reportedly running at a deficit just to keep up with the rev share payments. And you think there's money for baseball?

If ISU has the 100 million to spend on bringing baseball back at a competitive level that's 100 million that should be dumped into football and basketball. I mean hell, Hilton is woefully overdue for improvements. The concourses suck, the outside walkways are crumbling, etc.

Making up for that 18-0 loss they took yesterday to #7 Oregon State!

Looks like they might get to play more than 7 innings today!
We would all get hyped about ISU baseball beating a ranked rival.

This has nothing to do with Pollard. An Iowa State baseball team is a remarkably terrible idea, we’ve been over this a million times, nobody cared then and nobody would care now.

You want somebody else to pay for your niche hobby. No.

Is there some kind of bat signal that goes up as soon as the off season hits that brings out these idiotic, pointless ‘bring baseball back’ threads? Spend all year ******** about being millions behind other programs in funding rosters and then propose blowing 5 million extra dollars each year for a sport that no one north of Oklahoma City can compete in?

The “bat signal” is ISU sports being essentially over until the fall.

As much as I love baseball, I remember when we did have it and the coach had tryouts from the student body for positions on the team.

Its either this or the equally dumb threads about the press box.
