I mentioned this the day he got hurt, this just feels like Kerry Wood all over again. Highly talented starter that looks like an ace in the making but just can't catch a break with injuries. I hope I'm wrong and he eventually overcomes this, but that is the trend with him at the moment.

Well it's just time for the bats to carry the load while the pitching gets hea..... nevermind.

At this point I'm just going to assume Boyd's arm is falling off. And if history holds we can't be more than a few weeks away from Bregman getting hurt.

First two weeks couldn't have gone much worse. Hopefully Boyd's IL stay is minimum but I think we'll all believe it when we see it.

We lost our ace this same time last year. I don't feel any worse about the rotation today than I did last year when Steele went down. Time to get Seiya back and not dig too deep of a hole.

2024 Alzolay
2025 Steele
2026 Horton

3 straight years a major pitching contributor goes down within the first 2 weeks of the season to miss 12+ months with a major injury

I’d seriously consider bringing Wiggins up for a look. Between now and Steele’s return. Three or four starts in the bigs could seriously help him progress and show what he needs to work on. If by some chance we catch lightning in a bottle even better.

I know it’s not our normal approach but unless Assad suddenly refound something what’s it really hurt as far as the standings?

I haven't seen either throw this year for the I-Cubs, but looking at their numbers, what makes you think Wiggins would be more ready to help the team than Assad RIGHT NOW.

Sure, they have both have bad numbers, but one of the two have done it at the Major League level before. I'm as excited for Wiggins as anyone but now isn't the time imo.

This is feeling like a REALLY ugly year in the making. Both ace pitchers out, bullpen is total ass, no elite hitters, impressed less and less with Counsell at this point. And a potential lockout on the horizon to boot! I'll always root for and follow the Cubs because I'm a baseball guy, but it sure seems like football season can't get here soon enough this year. Bears should be a playoff team and I'm really anxious to see what the new Cyclones football program looks like.

I’m not necessarily saying he is but I think Wiggins stuff makes it feasible that a few starts up just might progress him a little quicker. We pretty much know what we’re getting from Assad. So Wiggins could give us similar outcomes and might help him be better prepared after the break for a possible permanent call up.

Or it could do the opposite and completely mess up his confidence if he gets shelled a few times out. He's 24 and has less than 20 innings total at AAA in his career. Let him dominate some at AAA first before giving him a look in the big show. 5 walks in in 8 innings so far in Iowa shows he has some things to work on still. Sucks to be in the situation we are in already having to rely on Rea and Assad in the rotation this early but at least it's not Jordan Wicks.

I say bring him up and see what you got - it's only a matter of time until he blows his elbow out, might as well get your money's worth of him at the big leagues instead of wasting innings in the minors. If he struggles, send him back down to iron things out. It's not if, but when, these young hard throwing pitchers will need elbow surgury.

Cubs changing up the order some. Like they moved Amaya up. One of the few guys actually hitting.

Anything is possible but this team could use a spark. He could also could get shelled at AAA.

If Assad sucks tonight we are going to get desperate.

The only people getting desperate after two weeks are fans.

Now, I could see them signing Lucas Giolito or something like that. But if they truly think Boyd is a minimum stay, they aren't going to get desperate.

The only people not showing extreme concern now are delusional

I am far from an orthopedic doctor, so I ask this question genuinely. Does a UCL just tear? Like does he feel great the pitch before and delivers a pitch and it's torn? Or would he or the organization be ignoring signs of wear?
