RECRUITING: Iowa State’s 2027 basketball class: Where things stand now

Yeah, I'm sure that they'll be fine and potentially a tournament team if their main players return. But, their whole offense was based around Stirtz. He never came off the court. A natural at the pick and roll, the pocket pass and an unreal shooter. And that's with him being the focus of the defense every single night. Players like that don't just grow on trees. How good are Sage, Banks, Folgarus, Koch without Stirtz getting them the ball and sucking up defenders? I'm not saying they are going to suck, but that is a huge loss.
IIRC, Banks is out of eligibility. So, the question grew.

TJ sold hope with a 2 win team and it worked. We’re always going to have a good chance at any player we want and can afford.

Iowa has a coach that parlayed 4 D2 NC into a MVC championship and a tournament win. Then an elite 8 in his first year at a major. Thinking he isn’t going to be a formidable opponent on the recruiting trail is whistling in the dark.
Every 4* (or higher) recruit we're after will have lots of other schools interested. If they happen to also be Midwest guys, then lots of Midwest schools will be our competition. This has been the case for years, well before TJ became HC.

I'd also add that Frannie Mac had good teams at Iowa overall that made the Tourney most years with the Garza teams being his best. We've been competing for recruits with them and other B1G teams for a long time, and that will continue.

The idea that Iowa going one round deeper than ISU in the Tourney will somehow flip guys showing heavy interest in ISU (or others) is ludicrous.

TJ's been getting great players out of Wisconsin for longer than he's been head coach here. And Wisco's been consistently good/really good during that time and a better overall program than Iowa for sure.

Iowa and Nebby's challenge now is consistency. If both falter next year and beyond, hanging your hat on something that happened a couple years ago isn't really effective.

TJ's been consistent. We make the Tourney every year, compete in the upper 3rd of the conference, win conference Tourneys and earn high seeds in the NCAA Tourney. And Sweet 16's are still big even if our luck recently has kept us from a deeper run. He's also continued our impressive run of developing players who go on to the NBA or Overseas.

I think Iowa's future is bright because of their coach. But I wouldn't place crazy importance in beating Florida. Shining moment for sure, but otherwise the Hawks were something like 1-8 against against a ranked team during the regular season. That just happened to be the Huskers, who they also beat during the Tournament.

The bigger draw for/against Iowa by any recruit is Iowa's system. Even with a stud in Stirtz at PG, the Hawks were one of the slowest paced offenses in D1. A recruit with NBA aspirations has to decide if that is a good fit. Also, does a recruit want to play in a motion or NBA style offense?
And to a high school player like Donovan Davis, TJ just helped his current player at the same position earn All American status!

Can’t believe you got me defending them but here we are. They beat a one seed to get to that game. Like it or not they and Nebraska are legitimate contenders now.
Eh - one game doesn't change much. TJ has 5 years of proven success. That means more to recruits IMO. Plus recruits know EXACTLY what they will get from TJ's program.

Lastly, as @JacksonLPence stated in his well written article, TJ has the luxury to be selective. Huge benefit to a program to get to choose which players they want rather than trying to persuade a recruit

We will see how Iowa does without catching lighting in a bottle for a point guard.
I see it as a great point guard with the same cast for four years. Lispsey had the same coach but not the same cast. All this stuff is so dynamic/fluid who knows what next year brings.

They will try to get Banks an extra year because of the whole JUCO deal but I'm not sure he will get it.
That Ole Miss QB just got his what, 7th year to play? No one is out of eligibility anymore except those who choose not to file a lawsuit to play again. I mean, judges in Mississippi decided that kid can play, NCAA be damned! What state's judges won't do the same thing?

No one’s forcing you to defend them. You can rag on them like I’m doing (it’s fun). They got to play Clemson without their starting big, a Florida team with the worst set of guards for a 1 seed in recent history, and then 2 big 10 schools they already played
There is nothing to defend.

They factually had the same mediocre season that they have had for 25+ years. The Florida win is a good win, and if I were them, I wouldn't apologize for the fact that Florida completely f*cking blew that game with several of the most asinine defensive possessions in the last 90 seconds...but that is what factually happened. I would donate a nut to get to play a completely inept and injured Clemson and 2 conference teams in route to a Final 4 run. Absolutely generational luck. But yeah - they have arrived!!

Somebody on that list not only went further than us but is the only team to beat a #1 seed. Not trying to start an argument but they do have selling points they didn’t have just over a week ago.
Sounds like you're trying to start an argument to me... ;-)

The last two possessions for Florida- on defense to give up the 3 and on offense not even getting a shot up were atrocious. Then the whole four players on the four fiasco by Nebraska. Merry Christmas Iowa.
