Well, we can only hope these guys are able to coach this team to play the way they want them to. I'm starting to believe the coaches and the players are going to start the season thinking they can win. I guess I should too.

I'm bearish on them competing with the new elites of the conference -- mostly Tech and BYU. They just have too much money. Maybe a senior-heavy team could have had Campbell stayed here.

But very bullish on the team being competitive with #3 through #16.

I'm not totally sold on either Tech or BYU being head and shoulders above everyone else year in and year out. BYU is a unique program, always has been and will continue to be. They have advantages in getting older Mormon players and having a nation wide reach, but its also a University that your average player doesn't necessarily want to attend. Sitake has been kind of up and down in his tenure, they aren't that far removed from being 13-12 over the course of two seasons. They play in so many close games the difference between a 10-2 season and a 7-5 isn't that great.

Tech has been throwing around lots of NIL money, but we've seen enough examples in the NIL world where that works really well some seasons and then blows up other years. They have been smarter than some with their use of money (spending a lot on the lines), but you still can't buy a whole roster of top end transfers, even with their budget. Mainly because for the very top end transfers they are having to spend above what the national powers, who also have a lot of money to spend, are willing to pay. You go to Tech over Texas or LSU because they are willing to pay you more.

I think both programs will have several double digit win seasons over the next 10 years, but I don't see either of them having a conference dominating run like Bob Stoops did at Oklahoma.

We will win games, because the defense will be that good. The offense will be a bit more of a wild card, as it’s a bunch of new coaches and players coming together there. The defense has quite a bit of consistency between coaches and players though, and defense tends to come together quicker anyways. It’s normal for the defense to be ahead of the offense in spring practice.

Did we have any targeting penalties last year? Seems like it is hard to coach aggression to new guys and still avoid the late hits, roughing, and targeting.

Sounds great but talk's cheap.
I don't believe it's talk. When Rogers was named coach I went back and watched a few WSU games from last fall. Their defense definitely brought attitude and aggression. And yes, they also looked to do a lot of talking to opponents.;)

I'm not a fan of schools that talk smack so much as teams that let the performance to the talking. Missouri had a coach named Bob Stull who never had a winning season but his players talked more smack than any team I've seen. Anybody can talk. Be good at football.

Well that's what their getting paid for right? This staff doesn't strike me as a group who will be satisfied with anything less than WINNING.

As a side, Stull grew up in Davenport.

I didn't know that. He replaced Widenhofer who also never had a winning season. Widenhofer replaced Warren Powers who never had a losing season until his final season when his non-conference schedule was Illinois, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Mississippi State. The grass isn't always greener.

I really hope there are a couple of Spring games so we can learn a few of the names of our entirely new team. SMH.

Believe April 24th last spring practice so I'm predicting that day or weekend before.
