We're planning to remodel our master bathroom and am looking for any contractor recommendations for the Omaha area. Live on the Iowa side of the river and have been getting bids from some of the franchise bathroom remodeling companies. Shocked at the prices of $30-45k for a smaller master bathroom for a complete makeover. Would like to find a contractor that would allow me to buy the double vanity, toilet, accessories and them install them and they would also do the demo, plumbing and electrical changes, flooring, shower, and install everything including replacing 2-24" doors with 30" doors. There are lots of companies that do this work but it is a chore to narrow it down to someone that will not mark everything up 200% but still does quality work.

Depending on your shower and/or bath choices, that could limit your options. If you are doing a walk in slate shower or if you are doing a tile walk in, not every small guy will do those. The rest of the stuff is pretty basic since everything is already there. Other issue would be if electrical has to be moved.

If you want to buy your own, you are most likely looking at a ma/pa type. The bigger ones rarely allow that since it hurts their mark up and if there is an issue with a damaged piece, it can become a peeing match between several people.

Done many (central Iowa location) and for that money the contractor doesn't "allow" you anything. He works for you. And for that type of money you should be getting high end everything. No LVP or composite anything. No pressed board vanity with a "cultured" marble sink. Nothing that looks like it came from a box store. It should be torn to the studs, subfloor and started from there. This isn't California and they shouldn't be charging like it is.

Edit: Let me add for that type of money, no ceramic or porcelain anything. All tile should be real i.e. slate, travertine, marble or granite. To point out the absurd........they should be spraying your walls with gold.

Unfortunately my last general contractor died in his mid 40s but before I found him I got quotes from The re-bath types myself at those prices. I would just look at Google ratings of local companies and interview 2-3. That’s how I found the guy initially and That’s my plan if I need to hire for that again.

I hired a guy named Juan to put a new bathroom in my son's basement for several thousand dollars. I know it sounds sketchy, but I checked out his previous work on other's people's houses ahead of time. He was awesome, and he did the work for a fraction of estimates I obtained from two different companies in Ankeny. He was also certified for plumbing.

I know that doesn't help you since you live in the Omaha area, but I'd encourage you to explore beyond the commercial companies in your area. If you go this route, just make sure they're licensed or certified for plumbing and check out their previous work.
