Jake Brend, Ben Hutchens, and Rob Gray give their biggest takeaways from one-on-ones with Jimmy Rogers. Both the Iowa State Men’s and Women’s teams snapped their losing streaks. Jada Williams explodes for 44. Reacting to the 2026 football schedule and more. Presented by Kelderman Manufacturing.

Enjoy!

I feel like the RB position is probably the weakest position group, but also maybe the least important too?

I’m excited about Peppers and Francois, but not sure how ready either of them will be next season? I like Flora as a 3rd down type back, but not the primary back.

Anyone have thoughts on who the starter will be?

I'm the most concerned about receiver. We just need to have backs that don't fumble. I don't think this day and age it's mandatory to have a stud feature back. RB by committee works just fine. 150 ypg would be great to get from that position. I don't have a clue who will start. New offense, new system, it may be someone you don't expect.

Anyone who doesn't think RB is an important position is too young to remember the 2022 season. A team that can't effectively run the football is going to have a tough time doing anything offensively. I don't want to believe the overall talent in the room is that bad, plus that group had injury issues, but they are pretty unproven at this point.

Really enjoyed the analysis of each other's interviews with JFR.

The room is pretty young. 1 FR, 2 R-Fr, 2 R-SO, 1 JR so it is expected that they are somewhat unproven. I trust Roehl and his ability to evaluate and develop productive backs. I also think the fact there is no clear starter will make all these guys up their game to get snaps. I expect someone will rise above.

I'm optimistic as well. It's just tough to know what to expect. A regression to what happened in 2022 is absolute worst case scenario. I don't expect it with Roehl vs at the time, Tom Manning

Yeah... the RB room is just a HUGE unknown at this point. It could be in great shape, we just don't know hardly anything about any of them, except Flora... which we really haven't seen at RB all that much either.

I know nothing about the kid from Bowling Green or the one from Oregon St. But I do trust Rogers... and agree that the OL is immensely more important to the running game than the RB is.

Cool to see all this momentum building, and it makes the spring feel a little closer. I was checking out some match data on https://rubiscore.com/ earlier and it reminded me how often a breakthrough game ends up being a turning point, kind of like what you’re hinting at here. Curious to see how fans react once the 2026 schedule settles in and people start circling the real make-or-break weeks.
