Does anyone know where I might be able to get an old LB White ventless garage heater worked on?

I have tried with getting traditional HVAC companies to work on htese, but they don't want to because of the liabilities assocciated with ventless heaters. I can understand, but who the heck works on them in the Ames area?

Edit: and if they don't charge outragious service fees, that would be great! I hate having to pay someone $130.00 to spend 15 minutes dignosing the issue.

What kind of heater is it? Forced air, radiant, blue flame, infrared, etc.

I think they have a trouble shooting guide online.

Not an expert at all however the simple solution is a dirty ODS (oxygen depletion) switch. It's right before the thermocouple on the small line that supplies the gas for the standing pilot. Or maybe it's your thermocouple. If you can get to it clean it very lightly with some steel wool. If it's the switch and you clean that with some compressed air.

Outside of that you probably need to look at the trouble shooting guide with your model. Good luck.

Find a place that rents them and see if they will work on it, or at least see if they know who does.

It uses an HSI (hot surface ignitor). No pilot light.

That is the step that seems to not be happening.

heater cycles and runs the clean air through do blow out any leaked gas, and then trys to do something clicks a couple of times. then the HSI does not light up, but it tries to feed air to blow cumbusted air out.

It will try lighting a few times. If you don't see the igniter glow it is bad

I did finaly find that Star equiptment can service them. They said I would need to plumb it to fit an lp bottle so i can bring it in and they can troubleshoot it. They aslo said if I gave them the SN they would talk to their tech, and see if he might be able to come out, but no guaranties.

Call an LP gas distibutor? Those are the ones who used to work on those on farms. Just a guess. Thinking a distibutor would have an idea. I know yours is probably natural gas. Also do you have moisture problems with that being ventless?

Ours is LP.

I don't have too much of a problem with moisture. Ours is actually in the stable portion of our polebarn. I have an exhaust fan that I can run if moisture starts to collect. The only downside to that, is it pulls cold air in from under the overhead doors which forces the heater to run more. We ususally keep it low at around 35-45 degrees. Just enough to make it comfortable for the horses.

Does it have a trouble light on it? How is it flashing?

I don't think it has a trouble light. I think it is like 20 or 30 years old.
I have 250k BTU ones and on the side is a round peep hole that has a red light that will basically give codes by the flashing.

Does the fan cycle a could times when you unplug it and plug it back in?

don't need to unplug it. It cycles a couple of times if I turn the thermostat up, essentialy turning it on.
